Logitech announces new QuickCam Orbit

The camera is ideal for video instant messaging, since it physically moves to keep a person’s face automatically centered in the field of view.  The camera is available in U.S. retail outletsand online at http://www.logitech.com/?countryid=19&languageid=1 for a suggested retail price of $129.95.

“QuickCam Orbit is the industry’s premier webcam – its unique adjustable design and robot-like personality make it the gift for PC enthusiasts this year,” said Spencer Johnson, director ofproduct marketing for Logitech’s Video Business Unit.  “QuickCam Orbit is an example of Logitech at its best – innovative new technology that makes the webcam experience more fun.”

The mechanical pan and tilt feature in QuickCam Orbit allows the webcam to physically turn 128 degrees side-to-side (for an almost 180-degree horizontal view), and 54 degrees up-and-down (for an almost 90-degree vertical view) — freeing users from the hassle of manually maneuvering the camera.  Logitech’s face-tracking software enables the camera to automatically follow a person’s face, keeping it centered in the field of view. Auto-zoom technology offers the option to zoom in up to three times the normal viewing size, making video instant messaging and video calling more fun, since the person on the other end will be able to see detailed facial expressions.  QuickCam Orbit captures up to 1.3 megapixel still photos, and true 640×480 videos with its high-quality CCD sensor.  It includes a 9-inch stand, so the camera can be elevated to eye-level, and a built-in microphone for easy addition of audio to instant messaging or video clips.

The Logitech QuickCam Orbit retail package includes Logitech QuickCam software, which provides the following features for Windows® users and Mac OS® X users:
