Wireless keyboards might be great for reducing desk clutter—unfortunately, in many cases, that saved desk space gets consumed with a stash of extra batteries—along with a charger, or a morgue of expended batteries that haven’t quite made it to the trash. Peripheral and accessories maker Logitech is aiming to take away some of that pain—at least for Mac users—with its new Wireless Solar Keyboard K760 for Mac. The keyboard is a Mac-specific follow-up to Logitech’s Wireless Solar Keyboard K750, and the company promises to do away with the battery conundrum, since the keyboards can be powered off sunlight, interior lighting, and even lamps.
“We hear from consumers all the time that they want to see more Mac products from us,” said Logitech senior VP Rory Dooley, in a statement. “I’m proud to say we’ve listened, and are excited to offer one of our most innovative keyboards designed specifically for Mac users.”
According to Logitech, the keyboards will work for up to three months on a full charge—even in total darkness—so users don’t need to worry about not being able to use their computers in the dark. The keyboards measure a slim one-third inch thick and feature chiclet-style keys for quiet, low-motion typing. The Mac version features a standard extended Mac layout (complete with media keys, brightness, eject, etc.) while the PC equivalent features a Windows-centric layout.
However, one important caveat with these keyboard is that “wireless” doesn’t mean “Bluetooth”—the keyboards operate on a 2.4 GHz wireless technology, which means users need to have a free USB port for a Logitech wireless receiver.
The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 for Mac is available now for a suggested price of $59.99 in white, silver, blue, green, and pink; the PC version is currently discounted from $79.99 to $71.99.
