Macworld Names 2006 Eddy Award Wnners

Macworld Magazine has announced its 2006 Eddy Award winners for products and services deemed outstanding for their innovation, excellence, and value. Every year, Macworld reviews hundreds of products and tallies up the opinions of its editors, contributors, and other knowledgeable members of the larger Macintosh community—and this year, it invited the larger Mac-using audience to vote for two Readers’ Choice awards. Polling is closed, and the two winners will be announced December 14.

“The Mac is all about innovation, and that innovation doesn’t end with Apple,” said Mac Publishing VP/Editorial Director Jason Snell in a statement. “Dozens of companies both large and small take advantage of the Mac platform to create the kind of great, cutting-edge products that will take the world by storm in the next few years. Our annual Eddy Awards recognize the most impressive new products in the world’s most exciting technology market.”

Macworld being, well, a leading Macintosh print publication, of course Apple hardware and products found its way onto the list, including the company’s MacBook, Xeon-based Mac Pro desktop systems, and the iMac Core 2 Duo with a 24-inch LCD display. Apple’s Aperture image workflow application also got an award, along with the company’s Keynote presentation software. (While the Nike + iPod Sport Kit made the list, curiously, no iPod model made the cut.)

Notable third-party products for 2006 include Parallels Desktop—which enables owners of Intel-based Macs to run Windows right alongside Mac OS X applications, the Sonos music systems, digital cameras from Nikon, Line6’s TonePort UX2 guitar/instrument hookup, and applications like Google Earth. And, surprisingly for a magazine devoted to products from a company which declared 2000 the “year of digital video,” YouTube got a nod.
