Mogopop Wants You To Share iPod Content

Users of Microsoft’s new Zune media player—Zunies? Zunites? Zunophiles?—are quick to point out the potential sharing capabilities of their Wi-Fi enabled players, as well as the social aspects of the Zune community. Of course, the population of Zune owners are currently dwarfed by the millions of iPod-toting music fans out there—and the new Mogopop Web site is inviting them to get social, creating, sharing, and downloading content especially designed for Apple’s iPod media players.

“Until today, it’s required a lot of technical savvy for a person to share media with other iPod owners—a video he’s created, a song her band recorded, or a photo he took. Mogopop removes that barrier,” said Jordan Allen-Dutton, Mogopop CEO and co-founder. “With Mogopop, people can now enjoy a world of personal media like fan sites, blogs, and videos on iPods as they have for years on the Web.”

Mogopop invites iPod owners to download user-submitted media, examples of which currently include museum tours, comedy videos, music from independent artists, trivia games, and a multimedia guide to the Milford Sound Trek in Australia. Mogopop also provides free Web-based tools to enable users to create iPod-specific content, integrating audio, video, images, text, and even podcasts for distribution via Mogopop.com

To use Mogopop, users need an iPod with a dock connector, iTunes 5 or newer (under Windows XP/2000 or Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer), and the free Mogopop Manager iTunes add-on. To create iPod content, users will need to sign up for a (free) Mogopop membership.

I can’t review the Punkt MC02. I went into it quite excited, as I liked the Punkt MP02’s unique style. I expected to treat the MC02 like any other smartphone by putting my SIM card inside and using it every day to assess whether it was a device worth buying. But this privacy-first phone does not make life easy, and although I’d be happy to put in the effort with the software if the hardware was really cool and enticing, unfortunately, it is a serious letdown at every turn.

There’s a chance I’m not quite as security-focused as the MC02’s intended audience, but if that also describes you, then you should approach this phone with a very open mind, a great deal of patience, and very low expectations. This is why.
