A new clip from The Avengers, or why you don’t interrogate people with super hero names

With The Avengers getting closer and closer to release, the good folks at Marvel Studios have dropped a quick clip featuring Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow during an interrogation that isn’t going quite to plan. The ridiculously popular and yet still unheralded Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) makes an appearance, and the dialog should feel familiar to any fans of Joss Whedon out there.

We’ll have to give Jason Statham the nod for being a better fighter whilst tied to chair (ala Killer Elite), but Johansson does put on a good show. She loses a few points by the fact that her head doesn’t actually connect to the thug’s face, but it is a nice glimpse at what to expect from the character and it further strengthens the connection between the characters of Black Widow and Agent Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). It was presumed that the two would be joined in some way, both as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and based on the various histories of the characters in the multiple comics back-stories, and this further solidifies that.

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4.
