Volvo’s head-turning V90 station wagon has been revealed prematurely by leaked images

Leaked images published by a Dutch website have given us the best look yet at the 2017 Volvo V90.

The pictures confirm that the V90 is all but identical to the 2017 S90 on which it is based, from the front bumper to the B-pillar. That means it boasts an elegant-looking front end characterized by a large grille with chromed vertical slats, and swept-back headlights with integrated T-shaped LED daytime running lights, a styling cue that Volvo has christened Thor’s Hammer. Around back, the wagon stands out from the sedan thanks to a roof-mounted spoiler and large, hockey-stick-shaped tail lamps that are visibly inspired by the stunning Concept Estate shooting brake that was presented two years ago at the Geneva Auto Show.

The interior is standard S90 fare, but that’s not a bad thing because Volvo’s newest sedan is its most luxurious yet by a long shot. The pictures show that the V90 offers ample space for five passengers and their gear in a spacious, well-lit cabin built using upscale materials. The bulk of the wagon’s navigation, connectivity, and entertainment functions are grouped in a state-of-the-art infotainment system controlled by a large tablet-like touch screen that takes up most of the center console.

The V90 is built on the same Scalable Platform Architecture as the second-generation XC90, and the two models are expected to share a long list of mechanical components. That means the wagon will most likely launch with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other powertrain options, including a 410-hp plug-in hybrid drivetrain, will be added to the V90 lineup a little later in the production run.

All models will come standard with a semi-autonomous technology called Pilot Assist that keeps the car in its lane thanks to sensors that read the lane markings.

Volvo will reveal the V90 at a private event held in Stockholm, Sweden, next week, and the wagon will be presented to the public for the first time next month at the Geneva Auto Show. Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo’s U.S. boss, recently told DT Cars that the V90 — and the more rugged-looking V90 Cross Country — will both be sold in the United States.

Name aside, Cadillac’s Escalade IQ isn’t the smartest EV decision
2025 cadillac escalade iq review dsc 0378

The Cadillac Escalade is a study in contradictions. With the current generation, Cadillac doubled down on tech, giving its biggest and most expensive vehicle an elaborate dashboard display and audio system, along with General Motors’ Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system. Yet, mechanically, the Escalade is still a cousin to the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, sporting a retrograde ladder frame and powertrains aimed more at towing than fuel economy.

Enter the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ. It’s still based on a pickup truck, but this time it shares a dedicated electric platform with the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. It’s still got all the tech one could want, but now with an equally modern electric powertrain.

Apple Car Keys on BMW

Apple first introduced support for digital car keys back in 2022 and a number of car brands already offer the feature on some of their models, including BMW, BYD, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz and the Hyundai Group. Audi has been missing from that list for the last couple of years though, until now.

The German car manufacturer has recently enabled Apple Car Key support for its A6 Avant e-tron model, which sees the digital key feature coming to Audi's electric car platform for the first time. The support was spotted by Mac4Ever and picked up by MacRumors, with the suggestion that the Car Key support may also make its way over to Porsche for its next line of vehicles.

BYD claims it’s made a major EV charging breakthrough
BYD megawatt charger

BYD, a Chinese EV (electric vehicle) manufacturer, has announced a new battery and charging system it claims can top-up an EV almost as quickly as it takes to fill a traditional combustion engine car with gas.

The Super E Platform is capable of delivering charging speeds of up to 1 megawatt (1000kW), equivalent to 2km of range every second at peak speeds. A five minute charge can replenish up to 400km (around 250 miles) of range.
