Aspid GT-21 Invictus: Spanish sportscar debuts with both style and speed

Aspid GT-21 Invictus Spanish sportscar debuts with both style and speed

If you’ve been waiting for an official glimpse of the Aspid’s latest sports car, the GT-21 Invictus, your wait is officially over. The Spanish sports automaker has finally pulled the curtain back on its latest speed-seeking sports car and needless to say it’s nothing short of stunning.

Now we’ll freely admit to not being fans of Aspid’s past open wheel design like the Super Sport. While there is no arguing that they’ve been fast, well-built cars, they’ve also been clunky and visually unappetizing. Consider the GT-21 Invictus as a deftly delivered riposte to our unbridled skepticism.

“Aspid Cars in (sic) the vanguard of technological and lightweight vehicle development and we needed to convey this in the design. We also needed an element of aggressiveness to reveal our motor sport credential,” explained chief designer and company founder Ignacio Fernández Rodriquez.

Aspid GT-21 Invictus rear three quarters

So far, it shows. Everything comes together incredibly well with the GT-21. It’s bigger, badder, and sexier than anything we’ve seen the Spanish outfit pull off the in past. Remarkably – considering the cars imposing musculature — Aspid has managed to keep the GT-21’s weight as light as possible by utilizing the same benchmark-setting 80kg chassis designed found in the super Sport. In total, the GT-21 hardly tips the scales at roughly 2,182 pounds.

Supplementing the Aspid GT-21’s stellar looks is a powerful BMW-sourced V8 capable of delivering 450 horsepower and vaulting from 0-62 in less than three seconds, while top speed is said to reach speeds in excess of 187 mph. Inside the car will feature a 2+2 seating configuration and rear-wheel drive format.

Aspid GT-21 Invictus side profile

With its combination of acceleration, cornering, and lightweight materials, the Aspid GT-21 Invictus has us thoroughly excited and impressed. And it appears tailoring each car to individual customer’s needs will play a central role in entire development process. Aspid says customers will have more than 100 different customization options to choose from. Each car will be hand built and the Spanish firm is encouraging customers to partake in the festivities by visiting the factory during the production process.

According to the Aspid’s press blast, the company is gunning for a 2014 model release. Customers will be able to purchase the car from an “elite group of 20 dealers across Europe.” However, no mention regarding price or whether the GT-21 would be available in other markets was made. So we’ll begrudgingly have to file this under “Europe only” for now.
