What’s happened? Google has officially started to roll out Gemini on Android Auto, replacing Google Assistant for anyone who has already switched to the Gemini app on their phone. Android Auto now runs in over 250 million cars, and this update brings a far more conversational AI into the dashboard.

  • Instead of memorizing voice commands, you can now talk naturally, ask follow-up questions, and handle more complex tasks while keeping your hands on the wheel.
  • You can trigger Gemini by saying “Hey Google,” tapping the mic on your screen, or long-pressing your steering wheel’s voice button.
  • All experiences remain hands-free to keep driving safe. The rollout begins globally in 45 languages over the coming months.

This is important because: Gemini dramatically expands what Android Auto can do, turning it from a simple voice assistant into something closer to a digital co-pilot.

  • Google Maps gets smarter: Ask Gemini to find the best places along your route, pull insights from reviews, or answer questions about businesses like whether they’re dog-friendly or what dishes people love there.
  • Messaging is easier: You can edit messages without starting over, add ETAs in the text, throw in emojis, and even get summaries when several messages come in at once. It can also translate into 40+ languages on the fly.
  • Email and productivity in the car: You can search Gmail, get summaries for unread email, pull info like hotel addresses to start navigation, and manage calendar, reminder, notes, etc.
  • Music gets intuitive: Gemini works with YouTube Music and Spotify, so you can ask for playlists by mood, occasion, or even weather, instead of specific songs.

Why should I care? If you use Android Auto daily, it can turn dead drive time into productive or creative time without touching your phone.

  • You can navigate smarter, message faster, and manage your inbox hands-free.
  • Translation, message summarizing, and mistake-fixing make communication easier while driving.
  • Just say “Hey Google, let’s chat” to start a free-flowing conversation where you can learn something, brainstorm ideas, or rehearse a speech while driving.

OK, what’s next? Gemini on Android Auto is just getting started, and Google says that more capabilities will be added over time.

  • Supported apps include Gmail, Google Calendar, Tasks, Keep, plus Samsung’s calendar, reminders, and notes, with support for more third-party apps arriving in the future.

Boring EVs caught a break as Americans lose Polestar
polestar-3-ev

Polestar, the Swedish EV brand controlled by China’s Geely, has been denied authorization under the US Connected Vehicle Rule. As a result, it will not be able to sell vehicles in the US from the 2027 model year onward. The company is not disappearing from American roads overnight. Polestar says it will continue selling existing US inventory of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, and current owners will still have access to service support. But for future models, the door is effectively closing unless something changes.

Self driving car from Waymo

Robotaxi rules have entered their first global phase. A UN vehicle standards forum has adopted the first international framework for fully autonomous vehicles, giving driverless fleets a common safety baseline across major markets.

The move lands while robotaxis are expanding from test programs into a bigger commercial race. In the US and China, private fleets more than doubled in 2025 to 8,000 vehicles across more than two dozen major cities.
