See Batman riding around on Joker’s custom car in the Suicide Squad movie

There’s a lot to see in the Suicide Squad footage that’s been released so far — both official and otherwise — but one element that’s generated a lot of buzz are the clips of Jared Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn riding around in a sleek, purple sports car. Notable not only for the unofficial fan-recorded videos of Batman riding around on top of the car but also for the custom design of the car itself, Joker’s ride was the subject of a recent Tampa Bay television news report that managed to get under the car’s hood.

In a profile that aired on Tampa’s FOX affiliate, the creator of Joker’s car in Suicide Squad explained the origins of the custom vehicle that transports the Clown Prince of Crime around town.

Referred to as a “Vaydor” by its creator, Jeremy MacEntagart, the car is the product of a custom kit for an Infiniti G35 created by the team at his garage where he develops custom frames for mass-produced cars. According to MacEntagart, creating a car like the one seen in Suicide Squad costs about $60,000 — and the price of an Infiniti G35, of course.

Along with some recycled footage from Suicide Squad, the video segment also includes some of the video shot by fans around the Toronto set of the film featuring the car in action.

Directed by David Ayer (Fury), Suicide Squad follows a team of supervillains from the DC Comics universe who are forced to undertake a dangerous mission for a mysterious government agency. The film’s cast includes Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Divergent) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as El Diablo, Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers) as Slipknot, Viola Davis (The Help) as Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto (The Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters August 5, 2016.
