Treyarch has decided to test how big of a Call of Duty fan you really are. Sure, you might own all the games, and maybe you have downloaded all the extra content. You might have even shelled out $149.99 for the upcoming prestige edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops that comes with an RC car with video surveillance cameras built into it — it should go nicely with the night vision goggles that you bought last year with the Modern Warfare 2 prestige edition. But are you a big enough fan to own the 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition that goes on sale next month for $30,625 for the two door and $33,500 for the four door?
And people say American car manufacturers don’t have any good ideas anymore! Fans of the game who also love Chrysler’s Jeep line can pimp their whip with the Call of Duty edition, which takes the Jeep Rubicon design and adds 32-inch off-road rims and tires, an all-black finish, an entirely black interior, Mopar fuel doors and taillamp guards, and Black Ops logos on the roof and quarter panels.
“It was important for us to make sure that the Jeep partnership would be authentic and enhance the setting we immerse our fans in with Black Ops.” Treyarch’s studio head, Mark Lamia said in a press release. “Our work with the Jeep team focused around using the Jeep Wrangler in our levels, and gameplay experiences, and translating the style and look of the vehicle in Black Ops to the Jeep on the showroom floor that our fans can own.”
The Jeep will of course be present in the video game as well. Even though the game is set during the 1960s. There will probably be a very logical reason to include the product placement… Perhaps after a hard day fighting Soviet troops in the Ural Mountains, the Black Ops team likes to drive their Jeep through the Starbucks line while listening to the newest Justin Bieber CD (in stores soon!).
Ironically, one thing that the $33,500 Jeep does not come with is a copy of the game. But at least you will have a slick-looking ride to drive you to the store to pick up your copy of Black Ops on November 9.
