Wings vs wheels: Lamborghini Aventador takes on a F-16 Fighter Jet

When you’re behind the wheel of one of fastest, most powerful (and may we add visually impressive) cars in the world – in this case the Lamborghini Aventador — you probably feel the need to test its mettle every now and again. While racing the rabble of racecars down the track or on the open road will satiate even the most diehard of hooners, the time comes when a bigger challenge is desired. Case in point: this lovely YouTube video courtesy of the speed freaks over at Danish magazine Bilmagasinet.

In what is truly an extraordinary test of automotive chops the video pits the fighter-jet inspired Lamborghini Aventador against the U.S. Air Forces crème of the crop – an F-16 Fighting Falcon. Needless to say, and rather unsurprisingly, the Raging Lambo more than holds its own during its mad dash down the runway. It isn’t until farther down the strip, when the Falcon takes flight, that it brings the heat and overtakes its wingless adversary. Although to be fair, there were times we could have sworn the Raging Bull would sprout wings and take flight itself.

Of course this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this stunt performed. Back in 2007 Top Gear’s Richard Hammond raced a Eurofighter Typhoon jet in a Bugatti Veyron down a makeshift dragstrip. Needless to say the French supercar put up an admirable fight, but ultimately shared the same fate of its Italian counterpart.
