ATI Delivers New Mobile Workstation GPU

ATI today said they were introducing their next generation mobile workstation graphics accelerator technology in the form of the new Mobility FireGL V5200. This new GPU will first be available in the Lenovo ThinkPad T60p.

The Mobility FireGL V5200, said ATI, offers up a lower power design which is certified for professional 3D applications such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Maya. Features include 256MB of memory, 12 pixel shader processors and five vertex shader units to drive complex models and assemblies.

“By providing outstanding graphics capabilities in both desktop and mobile workstations, end users no longer have to make sacrifices when it comes to the system selections – they can choose the solution that meets the requirements of their business and their need for mobility,” said Dinesh Sharma, Director, Workstation Products, ATI, in a statement. “The Mobility FireGL V5200 combines ATI’s leading expertise in mobile technologies, including power management, performance and image quality with our extensive knowledge in the workstation market to give 3D professionals a compelling mobile workstation solution with the Lenovo ThinkPad T60p.”

Lenovo upgrades ThinkPad lineup with Intel; X1 Extreme Gen 3 starts at $1,749
lenovo thinkpad x1 extreme gen 2 review

Lenovo just refreshed to its mobile workstation lineup, which includes the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 laptop and the company's ThinkPad P series. In total, five ThinkPad mobile workstation models are getting the upgrade to the latest Intel 10th-generation processors and Nvidia graphics, and you'll be able to pick one up next month in July when they become available.

If you value a balance between productivity and mobility, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme will be the model you'll want. Boasting a similar silhouette from the iconic ThinkPad X1 Carbon series, the third-generation Extreme model comes with a slightly larger 15.6-inch display in various configurations ranging from a standard FHD panel to a 4K OLED touchscreen model that supports HDR 500 True Black. And at just 0.72-inches thick, the 3.75-pound Extreme looks more like a standard Ultrabook than a workstation, but don't let that fool you.

Intel’s hybrid Lakefield processors may usher in a new era of dual-screen PCs
lenovo thinkpad x1 fold made me believer in folding pcs ces 2020 2 01

Intel unveiled its experimental new Lakefield processors last year, and now the company has announced plans to launch them in devices this year. The five-core Lakefield CPU will power traditional power-efficient laptops like Samsung's Intel variant of the Galaxy Book S, which is launching this month, and exciting dual-screen form factors like Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Fold, slated to arrive later this year.

Lakefield will be available in Core i5-L16G7 and Core i3-L13G4 variants, each utilizing Intel's Hybrid Technology. "Hybrid" means it uses both a 10nm Sunny Cove core for heavy workloads and four low-powered Tremont cores designed to extend battery life for less demanding tasks.

lenovo announces new thinkpad l x and t models for 2020 02 x13 yoga black hero front facing

Lenovo has refreshed a few of its ThinkPad lines heading into March 2020, and it's not just the machines themselves that have received a refresh. It's also the naming scheme, which Lenovo hopes is easier to follow and keeps things clearer as it announces revised models in the future.

The ThinkPads being refreshed include the T, X, and L lines, leaving the higher-end X1 line alone for the moment. To make things simple, the naming convention simply appends the screen size to the series, e.g., the T14 is the 14-inch T-series. The new models will be designated as Gen 1, and like the X1 series will be updated by generations from here on out.
