‘Eve: Valkyrie’ heads to Steam with HTC Vive support this month

Developer CCP Games announced that its interstellar combat game Eve: Valkyrie is coming to Steam this month with support for HTC Vive virtual reality headsets.

Initially available as an Oculus Rift-compatible Windows application, Eve: Valkyrie recently debuted as a launch title for Sony’s PlayStation VR visor. The game’s upcoming Steam release puts developer CCP one step closer to achieving its longstanding goal of offering cross-platform online multiplayer functionality.

Eve: Valkyrie is a spinoff in the popular space-faring massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) series Eve Online, which focuses on aerial combat and ship-to-ship dogfighting in a sprawling simulated universe. In addition to a single-player campaign, Eve: Valkyrie features an online multiplayer mode that supports up to 16 simultaneous players across its included maps and scenarios.

Known as Eve-VR during development, Eve: Valkyrie launched in March with support for the Oculus Rift headset. Shortly after the game’s debut, CCP Games revealed plans to support three major virtual reality frameworks and headsets, announcing that PlayStation VR and HTC Vive releases were due by the end of the year.

In October, a PlayStation 4 version of Eve: Valkyrie hit retail as one of the platform’s first games to support Sony’s PlayStation VR visor, arriving alongside other high-profile PSVR launch titles like Batman: Arkham VR, Rez Infinite, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

After Eve: Valkyrie arrives on Steam with HTC Vive support, CCP Games will begin the difficult task of incorporating cross-platform VR multiplayer functionality. A release date for the upcoming Steam launch is not yet known.

“We can confirm that HTC Vive pilots can finally join the fight among the stars — Eve: Valkyrie is coming to Steam this November,” CCP Games stated. “We’ve also got some big celebrations planned for that weekend; all pilots on all platforms are invited.”

“Full details — and the exact [release] date — will be released soon,” CCP teases, “but rest assured that you don’t have long too wait.”

Nvidia’s RTX 5080 Super could be coming much sooner than expected

All eyes are on Nvidia and AMD as they get ready to launch some of the best graphics cards for the mainstream market, meaning the RTX 5060 and the RX 9060 XT. However, a new leak tells us that Nvidia is working on a GPU that's set to come out later this year, and it's one that might finally live up to the expectations. I'm talking about the RTX 5080 Super (or Ti).

The tantalizing leak comes from Baidu and was first shared by Wccftech. According to the leaker, who is a moderator on the Baidu forums, Nvidia will launch the RTX 5080S or the RTX 5080 Ti at the end of the year. Spec-wise, we don't know much, but the leaker says it's "basically certain" that the new graphics card will sport 24GB of VRAM, which marks an 8GB upgrade over the RTX 5080. That kind of memory capacity would also put the GPU on par with the RTX 4090.
