What’s happened? Facebook Marketplace just got a massive upgrade with new Meta AI integrations and social features.

  • In a blog post outlining the changes, Meta revealed users can now create collections of Marketplace listings and share them with friends, who can also join chats with sellers for a more collaborative buying experience.
  • Listings now support reactions and comments, letting users share their experiences with others. In addition, Marketplace learns from these interactions to suggest items based on user preferences for a more personalized shopping experience.
  • A new Meta AI-powered feature will suggest questions users should ask when interacting with sellers, while another will offer detailed insights on vehicle listings, including engine options, transmission type, seating, cargo capacity, reviews, and price insights.
  • Meta has also improved the checkout experience, and it now shows total costs, including shipping and tax, for full transparency.

Why is this important? With these changes, Meta aims to make Facebook Marketplace a more social and interactive shopping platform.

  • Collaborative features like shared collections and group chats with sellers can make it easier for users to get feedback from friends and negotiate effectively.
  • AI-powered suggestions and insights should help users discover relevant products and make informed purchase decisions, especially for big-ticket items like vehicles.

Why should I care? If you often shop on Facebook Marketplace, these changes should make it easier to collaborate with your roommates on which couch to buy or to negotiate the best deals.

  • By leaving reactions and comments on listings, you’ll be able to improve the shopping experience of other users on the platform. This engagement should also benefit sellers by improving visibility and increasing their chances of converting new buyers.
  • The AI-powered question suggestions should help you get all the crucial information from sellers, while the vehicle insights will ensure you know everything about the model before going ahead with the purchase.

What’s next? The collections feature, reactions and comments on Marketplace listings, and the improved checkout experience are now live for all users. Meta is still testing the collaborative buying experience as well as AI-powered vehicle insights and question suggestions, so users can expect additional updates in the coming months.

Mac RAM upgrade prices have doubled amid the global memory crunch
MacBook Pro.

Apple’s Mac RAM upgrades were already expensive enough to raise eyebrows. After the company’s latest round of price hikes, some of them now look ridiculous.

Apple recently raised prices across its Mac and iPad lineup, along with other products, citing rising memory and storage costs. The supply crunch is real, but Mac buyers were paying steep premiums for RAM and SSD upgrades long before this jump. Recent MacBook Pro configuration screenshots shared by 9to5Mac show how much worse the upgrade path has become.

Apple Mac Mini on a Desk

A few days ago, Apple announced an ugly mid-cycle price hike, blaming the worsening-by-the-day memory crisis. According to the Financial Times, the company is now lobbying the government for approval to buy memory chips from a Chinese company.

The company in question is CXMT, a Chinese chipmaker that the Pentagon added to its Chinese Military Company blacklist for alleged ties to the Chinese army.
