Google Glasses and fashion are apparently a match made in heaven. Google is taking steps toward branding its rather geeky gadget as must-have vogue accessory by beginning with fashions biggest influencers. At this year’s New York Fashion Week for the spring/summer 2013 season, Google teamed up with celebrated fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg.
Women’s Wear Daily first caught wind of Glass making an appearance at Fashion Week when Sergey Brin was spotted attending fittings on Saturday, sporting khakis and Crocs. Today, WWD’s suspicions were confirmed when the press release hit.
Google’s Project Glass transmitted first-person footage from models strutting down the runway, Diane Von Furstenberg herself, and other DVF staffers. The Diane Von Furstenberg Google Plus page was updated regularly for a short period leading up to the show itself with images taken using the glasses, which gave us a glimpse of the Glass in action. On the final day of New York Fashion Week, DVF and Google will debut a short film titled “DVF through Glass,” which will be comprised of footage taken from the wearers of Glass during the show.
“You’ll get a glimpse into what it’s like to design, prepare and experience the DVF show at New York Fashion Week through Diane’s eyes and a few other views,” the press release stated.
Project Glass’s appearance at Fashion Week is its first officially endorsed appearance after its reveal (although the glasses did make a guest appearance on the television show, Charlie Rose). We wouldn’t be surprised to see further public appearances in the near future from Google as Project Glass, and from the looks of it, Google could be on schedule for a commercial launch in 2013.
