HP intros Compaq Presario S5000

Introduced in time for the holiday season, the feature-rich and reliable Compaq Presario S5000 lineup provides families, students and home office workers with great performance and value for all of their computing needs.

The powerful new S5000 systems offer a variety of useful options for consumers needing a computer for tasks such as completing school projects, tracking the household budget, surfing the Internet,(1) checking e-mail, backing up data on a CD, conveniently burning music CDs or even playing games.

Packed full of security features, the S5000 series PCs help keep consumers’ content safe from viruses and other security hazards with a complimentary 60-day subscription to protection updates for Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall software. Customers also receive notifications from HP on their desktops regarding security patches, vital support information and other critical system updates, enabling users to better protect their PCs and all of their stored content.

In addition, the Compaq Presario S5000 line features Symantec Security Center, allowing customers to scan for viruses and Internet vulnerabilities. Also included is interMute SpamSubtract Basic, which blocks offensive graphics and text e-mail messages, and a 30-day trial version of interMute SpySubtract PRO, an easy-to-use, PC security solution that detects and safely removes spyware programs that can monitor users’ computer activities.

The Compaq Presario S5000 Desktop PC Line

Providing consumers with powerful multimedia capabilities and outstanding computing power at an affordable price, the Compaq Presario S5400NX features an Intel® Pentium® 4 2.6-gigahertz/800-megahertz processor with Hyper-Threading Technology(2); 512-megabytes DDR memory; a 120-gigabyte hard drive; DVD+RW and CD-ROM drives; two IEEE 1394 FireWire ports; an open Accelerated Graphics Port 8x slot to enable additional graphics performance and gaming functionality; and 64-megabyte Integrated Intel Extreme UMA graphics.(3) The S5400NX is expected to be available beginning Nov. 2.

The Compaq Presario S5300NX, S5200NX and S5100NX provide customers a great value for everything from surfing the Web to doing schoolwork to managing the household budget. The models span in power, performance and functionality ranging from an Intel Pentium 4 2.5-gigahertz to Intel Celeron® 2.7- and 2.6-gigahertz processors, 512- to 256-megabyte DDR memory, 120- to 80-gigabyte hard drives, DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives, and 64-megabyte Integrated Intel Extreme UMA graphics.(3)

The Compaq Presario S5300NX is expected to be available beginning Oct. 5 at an estimated U.S. street price of $779.(4) The S5200NX and S5100NX are expected to be available in retail stores and on hpshopping.com beginning Sept. 28 and range in estimated U.S. street pricing from $559 to $659.(4)

The Compaq Presario S5000NX is an affordable PC that gives consumers the power and speed to enhance their productivity. At an estimated U.S. street price of $459,(4) the S5000NX features an Intel Celeron 2.5-gigahertz/400-megahertz processor, 128-megabyte DDR memory, a 40-gigabyte hard drive, a CD-RW drive, and 32-megabyte Integrated Intel Extreme UMA graphics.(3) The S5000NX is expected to be available in retail stores and on hpshopping.com beginning Sept. 28.

The S5000NX can also be purchased with a Compaq FS7550 17-inch flat screen CRT monitor for $569 after a $100 mail-in-rebate.(4)

Personalize the Computing Experience

Consumers looking to customize their Presario can order a feature-rich PC that best meets their individual lifestyle and needs – whether they are a gamer, a student or someone simply looking for a great home office PC.

The Presario S5000 series can be configured to order with a choice of processors ranging from AMD Athlon, Intel Celeron or Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading Technology with clock speed up to 3.2-gigahertz(2); up to 512-megabytes DDR SDRAM memory; up to a 250-gigabyte hard drive (on select models); and CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD+RW or combo drives.(3)

Graphics capabilities also can be upgraded in select models with the nVidia 128-MB DDR GeForce FX 5600 or the ATI Radeon 128-MB DDR 9800 card, both with TV-out capability.

All Compaq S5000 series models include an integrated 10/100Base-T Ethernet port, V.92 modem, Compaq keyboard and mouse, Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition and four to six USB 2.0 ports.
