Miami is the most flirty American city online, study finds

The beaches, the sunshine and the hyper-toned bodies seem to be going to Miami’s head. The Magic City is the flirtiest city in America, according to a new and decidedly unscientific study conducted by multi-lingual social networking site Badoo.

“This is a proud day for Miami,” Lloyd Price, Badoo’s director of marketing, said in a press release. “The Dolphins might not have won the other NFL lately but their town has now won the NFL that really counts.”

For the study, Badoo examined the 12 million chats conducted through its website and parsed those deemed “flirtatious” conversations carried out by average Badoo users. (How Badoo accessed the chats and gauged flirtatiousness was not revealed.) The study found that the average user in Miami initiates 18.5 flirty chats per month, just beating out Boston where users flirt on average 18.4 times per month.

Here are the top ten most flirtatious cities in America according to Badoo:

  1. Miami
  2. Boston
  3. San Francisco
  4. Tampa (tied with New York)
  5. New York (tied with Tampa)
  6. Orlando
  7. Los Angeles
  8. Houston
  9. Chicago
  10. Phoenix

Strangely, Las Vegas was nowhere to be found on the list.

Here are Badoo’s researchers’ explanations for why Miami ranked so high:

  • The first is that Miami residents are already big users of social networks like Facebook – and Badoo is used by the same age groups, but for meeting new people while Facebook is more about keeping up to date with your friends.
  • Second, Miami has a sizable Hispanic population and Badoo is hugely popular in Latin America with over 2.4m users in Brazil, 1.8m in Mexico, 750k in Argentina, 700k in Columbia etc…
  • Third, Miami is a city full of young people and continues to grow…. Lots of guys and girls stay in the area after graduating college or move there for the climate and lifestyle. Badoo is perfectly positioned to provide a social, local and mobile solution to meeting new people to this young demographic because most of its users worldwide are 18 to 35 year olds.

Miamians who might be appalled by their city’s penchant for Internet carousing can take comfort in the fact that globally Miami is far from the top; Badoo ranked as the 62nd most flirtatious international city. Athens, Greece was the number one worldwide, initiating 25.7 flirtatious chats online per month on average.
