PC MicroWorks Vega Offers Dual SLI Graphics

If the Falcon Northwest FragBook TLX wasn’t enough to get your juices flowing, PC MicroWorks would like you to consider their new Vega Super Notebook. PC MicroWorks claims to offer the fastest consumer systems in the world, and the Vega looks to be their big for the ultimate desktop replacement system, sporting an AMD Dual Core Turion TL-60 X2 processor, up to 600 GB of storage, support for 4 GB of memory, and a massive 20.1-inch LCD display with dual SLI Nvidia 7950GTX X-treme GPUs with a up to a gig of video RAM. And did we mention the optional Blu-ray burner?

“Though it may be a little late to make it under the Christmas tree for some shoppers, this impressive new laptop may be worth the wait for others,” stated Timothy Lee, PC MicroWorks Media Relations Director, in a release. And it’ll take more than patience to set hands on a Vega: the base configuration starts at $3,599. Fully tricked out with EVDO, GPS, TV tuner, 4 GB of RAM, dual hard drives for 600 GB of storage, dual SLI, and (of course!) that Blu-ray burner, price tags on the Vega can top an extreme $7,800. The Vega also sports and 8-in-1 media card reader, five USB 2.0 ports, 1 mini-1394/FireWire port, S-Video output DVI video output, audio line-in, headphone and microphone jacks, a PCMCIA slot, a built-in 1.3 megapixel Webcam, integrated Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, and Ethernet.

The XPS 16 is fighting an uphill battle against the MacBook Pro
Dell XPS 16 sitting on desktop with flowers.

It took a few years, but Dell finally updated the design of its two largest XPS laptops. The XPS 15 gave way to the XPS 14, while the XPS 17 was replaced by the XPS 16. The latter gained the ultramodern look of the XPS 13 Plus, complete with a glass palm rest, a hidden haptic touchpad, and a row of LED function keys.

It's a significant update but places the XPS 16 in direct competition with the Apple MacBook Pro 16. That's an excellent matchup with proven performance and battery life and an elegant design that's solid, if a lot more conservative.
