Toshiba libretto W100 Dual-screen UMPC Available for Pre-order

Back in June, Toshiba unveiled a new take on the ultra-mobile PC in the libretto w100, a book-folding, dual-screened PC that weighs just 1.8 pounds but runs Windows 7. Now, Toshiba has opened up pre-orders for the libretto W100 in the United States, with prices starting at $1,099.99.

“The libretto W100 continues the libretto brand’s heritage of defying convention by packaging a full Windows computing experience into highly compact ultra-mobile form factor,” said Toshiba America Information Systems VP of product development Carl Pinto, in a statement.

The libretto W100 runs Windows 7 Home Premium and sports an Intel Pentium CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and a 62 GB SSD drive for storage. The unit also features a 1 megapixel webcam (handy for video chat and Skype), a 3d accelerometer, a USB 2.0 port, microSD removable storage, plus 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth wireless networking. The w100’s displays each measure 7 inches and offer 1,024 by 600-pixel resolution—and both displays are multitouch-capable touchscreens. The libretto W100 is designed to enable simple multitasking: users can surf the Web on one screen while checking email or engaging in IM on the other, or read one document while writing another or composing email. (The libretto W100 offers six virtual keyboards for text entry, with haptic feedback.) Closed, the libretto measures just 4.84 inches by 7.95 inches.
