LimeLight Expressions founder: AI can’t replace human expertise in event planning

It’s undeniable that artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized industries worldwide, providing them with faster, more efficient ways to generate ideas and streamline operations. The event planning sector is no exception, with AI offering automated scheduling, venue recommendations, and AI-generated event themes. 

Kimmylea Konsel-Taylor, the founder of LimeLight Expressions, a full-service event planning, design, and production company, believes that while AI is an exciting tool beneficial in the early brainstorming stages, it doesn’t replace experience, intuition, and creativity. “Implementation and execution don’t come from simply having a great idea,” she explains. “AI can give you concepts, but it doesn’t have the expertise, the ability to problem-solve in real-time, or the human touch that makes events truly special.”

The founder recognizes AI’s drawbacks in event planning. Firstly, AI relies on existing ideas. It doesn’t create. It compiles, reorganizes, and presents information that already exists. Therefore, many of its ideas are only repetitions of what has been done before. If businesses rely too heavily on AI, they might fall into a cycle of unoriginality and redundancy. Events would then begin to feel generic. 

In addition, Kimmylea notes that AI lacks the ability to think dimensionally. “It can suggest ideas based on patterns, but it can’t assess whether those ideas will work in a specific space, align with a company’s brand identity, or fit an event’s emotional tone,” she states. 

Most importantly, AI can’t adapt to the unpredictable nature of live events. No matter how advanced the technology becomes, it can’t step in when things go wrong (which is inevitable in this field). “Is AI going to put the decor on the tables? Is AI capable of taking action when a keynote speaker is running late or getting stuck in traffic? Can AI run an event smoothly in real-time?” Kimmylea asks.

AI can provide suggestions. However, it can’t physically solve problems as they happen. It won’t negotiate with a vendor when a delivery is delayed, adjust a seating chart last minute to accommodate a surprise guest, or coordinate with a venue to address unexpected weather changes. These are all challenges that need human expertise, quick decision-making, and years of industry experience to navigate. AI might recommend venues, but it won’t negotiate with local authorities to ensure VIP guests receive expedited service at customs or arrange for exclusive access to locations. “Relationships are dynamic,” Kimmylea adds. “The interaction between a client and a service provider, whether a planner or a venue operator, fuels creativity. When we talk through ideas together, we build on each other’s thoughts. AI can’t replicate that synergy. It doesn’t have instincts, emotions, or the ability to connect on a human level.”

AI will continue to evolve, and it will undoubtedly play a role in certain aspects of event planning. Companies like LimeLight Expressions prove that AI will never replace the expertise, intuition, and personal touch that human planners bring.
