Shuttle Shows Off New Media Center PC

Leading small form factor PC maker Shuttle today announced they were releasing a new chassis targeted towards home entertainment users. The XPC M 1000 is available now at a starting price of $1,999.

The M 1000 runs off of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and takes the form factor of a device which would typically sit amongst a home theatre setup. It runs off of an Intel Pentium M processor and offers a 250 GB internal SATA hard drive for storage. Additional storage space can be added via a 2.5″ USB removable drive bay, 8-in-1 multimedia card reader or dual format DVD writer, all accessible from the front of the device.

Additional features include Nvidia GeForce 6600LE graphics, high definition 7.1 audio technology from Creative, FM radio with pause and replay functions, a remote control and a wireless keyboard.

“Now is the time to do away with the individual VCR, CD, DVD, and receiver appliances in your family media room,” said Michael Wu, President of Shuttle Computer Group, Inc in North America. “Simplifying your digital media experience through the Shuttle XPC M 1000, built on Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, makes for a pleasing modern approach to digital living.”

On Tuesday, October 15, the agency showed off its new spacesuit designed for this ambitious mission at a presentation at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

If the moon has enough water, and if it’s reasonably convenient to access, future explorers might be able to use it as drinking water or to convert it into hydrogen and oxygen for rocket fuel or oxygen to breathe. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center

An important step toward more long-term manned missions to the moon is locating a source of water. If water is available to future astronauts on the moon, they will be able to stay much longer than if they have to carry a large amount of heavy water with them on their trip from Earth. Recent research has suggested that there could be frozen water in craters near the moon's poles, and there may even be minute amounts of liquid water which travel across the moon's surface. But scientists aren't sure whether this water originates, so it's hard to predict where it could be found.

Starship Update

Today we should get a first look at SpaceX's Starship project, which the company describes as "a fully, rapidly reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and anywhere else in the solar system." This next-generation rocket will produce huge amounts of thrust to lift even heavy payloads into orbit and should be able to safely carry humans in the future.
