VH1 Makes New Video Podcasts Available

VH1 today announced that they’d added four new video podcasts to their line up of “multiplatform programming”. These podcasts join a program the music service began last fall in conjunction with their “Hip Hop Honors” event.

The new video podcasts are, according to a VH1 press release:

  • “Best Night Ever” – Based on the VH1 series of the same name, this podcast will launch each night from Sunday to Thursday, presenting a five-minute summary of “everything you loved, everything you missed, and everything you have to see again” from that night’s primetime lineup, with an occasional bit of pop culture news and gossip. Itwill feature commentary and clips from the night’s biggest shows, as well as some “must see” oddities and will be hosted by Best Week Ever and VH1 staff members, as well as Best Week Ever panelists.
  • “Best Week Ever Daily” – This video podcast is a “daily dose of video commentary” from its weekly show of the same name, providing viewers with unedited “quick takes” that highlight the week’s entertainment news and pop culture.
  • “Best of VH1” – This podcast offers up exclusive multiplatform programming from VH1 events and shows, like VH1’s “All Access” and “I Love the 80’s”. It will be updated three times a week.
  • “Flavor of Love” – This podcast will highlight exclusive “extras” and behind-the-scene footage from the show that “follows Public Enemy hype-man Flavor Flav in his quest for love”.

VH1’s video podcasts will be available through several Web sites and podcast directories, including http://www.vh1.com/, iTunes and Yahoo (http://podcasts.yahoo.com/).

Harvard University has a bold new plan to make Mars livable for humans
harvard mars aerogel proposal header

“Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kid; in fact, it’s cold as hell.” So sang Elton John in 1972’s “Rocket Man,” one of the greatest (and only) pop hits ever to be written about the loneliness of space exploration. It’s a valid point -- and one which scientists have been seeking to address ever since. With everyone from Elon Musk to the good folks at NASA talking about the creation of a Mars colony, finding some way to make the Red Planet habitable has become a top priority. And Harvard University scientists think they may have found a way to do it.

The newly proposed approach comes shortly after what appeared to be the end of the dream for terraforming Mars. Terraforming describes the hypothetical process of artificially transforming a planet so that it closer resembles Earth, thereby allowing it to support life. Unfortunately, a NASA-sponsored study from last year concluded that it most likely wouldn’t work.

New A.I. and voice synthesis makes Gatebox your cutest, cleverest digital pal

The concept of living at home with an intelligent digital character is almost a reality, due to a partnership between Line, the popular messaging app, and Gatebox, a cult Japanese artificial intelligence (A.I.) company. Line supplies its Clova A.I. platform to Gatebox, where it will be integrated into the production version of its smart home hardware. Think of Gatebox as a little like Amazon’s Alexa, but the difference is, Gatebox has a friendly, interactive digital character inside, ready to communicate naturally with you both in and out of your home. It’s a big step beyond the basic interactions we have with Alexa or Google Assistant.

While the partnership between these two companies had been revealed when Line acquired Gatebox in early 2018, the result of how Clova will work with Gatebox has now been demonstrated at the Line Conference currently taking place in Japan. Clova is Line’s A.I. platform that powers its smart home speakers, operating in the same way as Alexa. The integration with Gatebox brings A.I. smarts to the charming digital character living inside the sci-fi hardware.
