DT Daily: Jony Ive ushers in ‘adaptergate’ with the new MacBook

While Apple’s new MacBook is an engineering achievement, it’s missing something. The decision to drop almost all ports in favor of a single USB Type-C connector is sure to stir up the passions of port enthusiasts everywhere, and the reveal of the company’s official adapters is unlikely to calm them. The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is the most important. It splits the MacBook’s single USB-C port into one USB-C, one USB 3.1, and one HDMI. And it will set you back $79. If you just want to plug in one standard USB cable, that’ll be $19. So unfortunately the trade-off for getting an ultra-thin MacBook, is having to pack around and use a couple extra adapters.
