Amazon devices and other great gifts with delivery by Christmas

There are just three days until Christmas, but you don’t have to restrict your shopping to local stores to buy gifts in time for the holiday. Amazon adds new deals to its Last-Minute Deals campaign daily. If Amazon has full confidence in its ability to deliver to your home in time, the words “Arrive before Christmas” are printed in green letters a few lines below the product price. Whether you’re searching for great bargains or looking for perfect presents, Amazon has loads of great gifts ready for shipment to arrive before Christmas. Don’t delay long if you decide to buy one of these products, however, because a deal that’s available for pre-Christmas arrival when we check early in the day may not be available as the day goes on.

Amazon product pages indicate whether delivery is possible before Christmas. Because Amazon knows your address when you log on to the site, shipping availability will likely vary depending on your location and is proximity to the nearest distribution center that has a specific product in stock. There is no such thing as absolute with delivery services, but the estimates are a big help. If an item is not going to be in stock till a date after Christmas, the pages include that information, which is a big help. When we selected the products listed lower in this article, for example, delivery before  December 25 was a required criterion.

You can find excellent deals on 4K TVs, Apple Watches, Fitbits, Garmin smartwatches, and Bose products. There are still high-quality headphones from Sony, Bang & Olufsen, and Bose, Roomba and Ecovacs robotic vacuums, Instant Pots, and Nespresso coffee makers available for a timely delivery.

Amazon dropped several new deals leading up to and beyond Christmas. Until today, December 22, for example, DeWalt Tools have special savings.  Also through today, Amazon has a last-minute discount on Noot NP20T Bluetooth Earbuds..

Amazon continues to offer excellent discounts on its owned-brand products, including such as Echo, Kindle, Fire, Ring Video Doorbells, and Ring and Blink security cameras. There are still good deals on most Amazon Echo smart home devices such as the Echo and Echo Dot, Echo Shows, Fire TVs, Fire Tablets, and Kindle e-readers. Be on the lookout for exclusive deals on Amazon device bundles with unprecedented savings. We also continue to see new sales on third-party Alexa-compatible devices, including video doorbells, smart security cameras, speakers, lights, robot vacuums, and other appliances.

If you start your shopping on Amazon’s Last-Minute Deals page, you can search by category, which is a significant time-saver if you know the type of gift but not the specific brand or model — you might as well look at the deals first. That same page is a good starting point to check out the day’s lightning deals, short-term, limited-quantity sales, and exclusive bundles. We’ll update this page with the very best deals in the categories we monitor.

Some prices are a tick higher than during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but there are still tons of killer discounts.

Some of the best deals are on Amazon Echo devices, but you can also find excellent deals on Apple Watch Series 3, 4, and 5, iPads, iPhones, Fitbits, Sonos speakers, Instant Pots, 4K TVs, and more. Selected Amazon devices from categories such as Echo Dots, Fire TV sticks, and Ring lights and cameras are all available during the extended holiday sale.

Apple reportedly working on a new iPad-like smart home display
Someone holding the 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro (2022).

Apple recently announced a new HomePod with support for Matter, but it seems the company might have bigger smart home plans for the rest of 2023. According to the latest report from Bloomberg, Apple is allegedly working on an iPad-like device that could directly compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub Max.

Details on the rumored product are scarce, but it seems the device would feature a touchscreen and function similar to an iPad. Magnets would allow it to be mounted to a wall, and HomeKit would give it access to all your smart home products. It’s unclear at this time if the device would feature a stand, allowing it to sit on your countertops like the Echo Show and Nest Hub. What is clear, however, is that Apple wants to gain a stronger foothold in the smart home market -- and this could serve as a great alternative to using the HomePod Mini as a HomeKit hub.

Tablets at CES 2023 are beating the iPad in big and unexpected ways
Holding the Lenovo Smart Paper.

CES 2023 happened this week, and it’s usually when we see a bunch of interesting new tech — like Withing’s new health tracker that you pee on, and L’Oreal’s eyebrow printer for your face. Tablets aren’t a huge part of the show, but we still got some interesting options coming from TCL and Lenovo later this year.

Though Apple’s iPad is still the dominant choice in the tablet market, some of the coolest tablets at CES 2023 offer something that Apple doesn’t yet make itself. And that got me thinking; perhaps it’s time for Apple to consider branching out with its tablet lineup to do something new.

Does the Apple iPad (2022) have a headphone jack?
Someone using an Apple Pencil with the 10th Gen iPad.

Apple has launched a new, re-designed iPad with the faster A14 Bionic chip and four vibrant color options to choose from. The new model also features upgraded cameras, a USB-C port for charging, and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button.
It's the biggest overhaul we've ever seen for the baseline iPad, and it gets a lot right. But does the iPad (2022) have a headphone jack?
Does the iPad (2022) have a headphone jack?

Despite all the cool new features, the Apple iPad (2022) still doesn't feature a headphone jack. In fact, none of the recent Apple devices come with a headphone jack, so you're left to use wireless earbuds like the AirPods for enjoying your music.
Is this surprising given Apple's other headphone jack-less gadgets? Not at all. But it is still disappointing for people who use and rely on wired audio gear.
Why recent Apple devices don't have a headphone jack
Apple got rid of the headphone jack shortly after it purchased Beats and launched its first wireless earbuds, the first-gen AirPods. While everyone predicted it was a strategy to boost earbud sales, Apple also cited space-saving reasons to dump the good old headphone slot.
"Maintaining an ancient, single-purpose, analog, big connector doesn't make sense because that space is at a premium," Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said during the iPhone 7 launch where Apple first removed the headphone jack from its devices.
