When it comes to Amazon on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, one of the best things to buy during the weekend is Echo devices. Each year, it seems as if the best deals on these devices come around this time, and if you have been holding off on buying one, now’s the best time to do it.
While all deals are good through at least Cyber Monday, some deals are good through at least a portion of Cyber Week. Our recommendation is to buy early. Echo devices have proven to be popular items in the past and have sold out of certain colors and finishes quickly.
Best Echo deals
This Black Friday the better deals generally seem to be the bundles, where an Echo device is paired with a smart plug, camera, or smart light. Our top three picks are below.
- — $60 (save $56)
- — $65 (save $60)
- — $80 (save $50)
— $60 (save $56)
When it comes to security cameras, the Wyze Cam is one of our favorites. It’s cheap, and the picture quality is outstanding. But we think to enjoy these cameras, you need to have a way to view them without using the app all the time. For Black Friday, Amazon with an already great discount on the Echo Show 5 itself. All you’ll need to do is enable the Wyze skill, and you’ll be able to view your cameras on any video-enabled Echo device.
The Echo Show 5 is one of Amazon’s newer Echo devices and features a 5-inch screen in a design reminiscent of an alarm clock. That’s where we recommend you place these devices: They make for a great bedside addition. Sound quality is also much more impressive than you may think, roughly equivalent to what we experienced with the third-generation Echo Dot.
— $65 (save $60)
Don’t need a video screen with your Echo? We’d recommend stepping up to the standard Echo. It has much better sound quality, and its smaller size than the previous generation Echos is a big selling point. Amazon’s package deal for just $60. We think this is a great buy as a gift for someone just starting with smart home technology. There is no setup involved, as your Echo will automatically detect the plug. The only settings you need to change is its name — which is what you’ll use to control whatever’s plugged in.
— $80 (save $50)
The Echo Show 5 is admittedly pretty small and is why we only recommend it for the bedroom or other areas where you might replace a standard clock. The newis a much better solution for larger rooms. The larger (and also more proportional) screen makes watching video content on the device more pleasurable, and it’s easier to navigate the screens by touch, in our opinion.
An included privacy shutter allows you to disable the camera if you’d like, and larger speakers will give you sound quality that is closer to the standard Echo, although perhaps not as good as the top-of-the-line Echo Show. Still, for $80, which is $50 off retail, it’s the cheapest we’ve seen the device yet.
Which Echo is right for you?
Which Echo you pick has a lot to do with personal preference. The easiest and cheapest is the Echo Dot. However, the sound quality of the standard Echo is far superior. Among the Echo Show, we’d recommend using the Echo Show 5 as a replacement for clocks, while the Echo Show 8 is better for larger rooms. The 10-inch Echo Show is a better option if you plan to use the device to watch videos — the experience is far better.
