Google Nest Hub vs. Amazon Echo Show: Which Cyber Monday deal is better?

A smart display is more than just a pretty screen that can scroll through your photos, though most smart displays are actually cheaper than digital photo frames. A smart display can show a host of news updates, videos, recipes, and much more. Right now, both the Google Nest Hub and the Amazon Echo Show 5 are both significantly discounted for Cyber Week. This is the perfect time to pick which one you prefer and beef up your smart home with a bright new display, but choosing between the two can be difficult.

Nest Hub is bigger

If screen size is a big factor for you, the Nest Hub has the advantage. Its screen is a 7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. The Amazon Echo Show 5 only has a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 960 x 480. The Nest Hub also has several features that might give it the edge, like an ambient brightness sensor that detects the light level in the room and automatically adjusts the display.

Echo Show 5 has more features

While the Nest has the edge when it comes to screen size and resolution, the Echo Show is ultimately more functional. This is mostly because the Amazon Alexa platform is stronger than Google Home’s currently is. Amazon has sunk more time and research into it, resulting in over 80,000 Alexa skills. You can play Jeopardy, stream compatible security cameras straight to the Echo Show, and make video calls. You can also watch Prime Video through the device.

On the other hand, the Nest Hub is nothing to sneeze at. It has a lot of features, too – like the ability to stream YouTube. It also has the Home View feature’ which gives you a bird’s-eye view of your smart home devices — their current status, whether they are turned on, etc. Unfortunately, the Nest Hub does not have a camera, so video calls are out of the question.

Nest Hub is more expensive

Of the available deals, the Echo Show 5 is the most affordable at $50. The fact that it comes with four months of Amazon Music for free doesn’t hurt, either. The Nest Hub is available through Best Buy for $80 (discounted $50 from its normal price) but doesn’t include any extra perks – unless you consider extra color options as a perk. The Nest Hub comes in four colors, where the Echo Show only comes in two.

In both prices and features, the Echo Show 5 is the better value. However, if you’re dedicated to the Google ecosystem and you don’t want to move out of it, the Nest Hub is still a great deal that’s worth picking up.

This RTX 3070 gaming laptop deal for $1,000 officially wins Cyber Monday
Two models of the Asus TUF Dash against graphics on a background.

If you're shopping for a gaming laptop under $1,000, you know what to expect. An RTX 3050 or 3050 Ti in a very thick chassis. Well, that's where this Cyber Monday deal from Best Buy exceeds my expectations for what gaming laptops at this price can be.

The deal is for an Asus TUF Dash, which normally sells for $1,500. Thanks to a discount of $500, though, this powerful gaming laptop now lands just under $1,000. That's an incredible value, considering it packs an RTX 3070 inside. And that GPU really does make all the difference in game performance.

Why a Kindle Paperwhite is the best $100 you can spend on Cyber Monday
A personal reads on a Kindle Paperwhite while relaxing at campsite.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are prime times throughout the year to get mobile tech at lower-than-usual prices. That means there are ample Cyber Monday phone deals, tablet deals, and smartwatch deals. But those aren't the only mobile gadgets you can buy for cheap. Also available at a discount today is the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.

The Kindle Paperwhite isn't a particularly exciting mobile device, at least not on paper. It isn't a flashy flagship smartphone or a powerful tablet you can use to play CoD: Mobile. Instead, it's a very simple e-reader that's designed for reading e-books and nothing more. But it's because of that simplicity that the Kindle Paperwhite is so damn good — and why it's the best $100 you can spend on a new gadget this Cyber Monday.

The Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) with Clock.

Smart speakers come in many sizes, and pitting the Amazon Echo Dot (now on the fifth generation) vs. the Nest Mini (currently on the second version) compares some of the smallest available. These tiny speakers are still loud enough to play music or perform other audio functions for people nearby, and they can make great desktop companions or even smart alarm clocks in some cases.

Which is the best? Despite their diminutive sizes, these little speakers have a lot of differences, starting with their design. Let’s take a look.
