Samsung is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the introduction of its wildly popular Galaxy smartphone line this year. As its name implies, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is the 10th generation of this top-selling Android, and it’s no shocker that the new flagship a winner. It doesn’t re-invent the wheel, and it doesn’t have to – Samsung has refined the Android mobile formula well over the past decade (and has even released some great wearables lately), and the S10 is a testament to this.

Our review team had especially good things to say about the Galaxy S10’s hardware and app performance, excellent battery life, slick OneUI software interface, great triple-camera module, and gorgeous HRD10+ touchscreen display. We liked the Galaxy S10 Plus slightly better, but that’s a large phone and not everybody prefers a device that big (particularly those of us who carry our phones in our pocket instead of a bag). The fact is, if you want a normal-sized Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S10 is the one.

Samsung this week announced that it will be rolling out its latest One UI 5.1 software to current Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 lineups. The company debuted the Android 13-powered One UI 5.1 update on the Galaxy S23 Ultra this month, and it's bringing those extra features to general users.

“One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible,”  Samsung's Janghyun Yoon said in a blog post. “Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement.”

Samsung's One UI 5 beta is beginning to roll out for select Galaxy S22 owners via the Samsung Members app. Today, Samsung announced the early rollout would be exclusive to Germany, South Korea, and the U.S. — but it quickly pulled the announcement from its website without a replacement (likely a sign that the post went up earlier than it should have). While Samsung works on getting its timing right, folks who've gotten early access to One UI 5 have taken to Twitter to show off the new features.

As expected, One UI 5 puts customization at the forefront of the update. Now, Galaxy users will have nearly endless options when it comes to how they want their UI to look. Early examples that we've seen on Twitter include things such as expanded color options, widget stacking, and more ways than ever before to customize notification settings. All of this was detailed in the pulled presser that Samsung officially posted earlier today, in addition to details regarding other new features coming with the update.
