The Sony WH-CH700N are the best wireless headphones under $100 this Cyber Monday

Best Buy has discounted some of the best wireless noise-canceling headphones in the business, dropping the price of the Sony WH-CH700N from $200 down to just $90, making this one of the retailer’s steepest discounts for not only Black Friday, which has now been and gone, but also this coming Cyber Monday. In fact, the offer is so good, it’s currently at the top of our list of the best Cyber Monday headphone deals.

The Sony WH-CH700N don’t quite measure up to the company’s WH-1000XM3, but let’s not forget: These are a fraction of the price — and that’s when they aren’t on sale.  Regardless, their powerful 40mm drivers feature bumping bass and a great balance for mids and highs across the audio spectrum. Sony combines its tried-and-true Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) with A.I.-enhanced active noise cancelation to keep good sound devoid of external distractions pumping through your ears. These wireless headphones deliver the audio signal across a Bluetooth 4.1 channel that supports AAC, SBC, aptX, and aptX HD for high-quality sound and stability.

With 35 hours of battery life while listening and 200 hours on standby, you won’t be reaching for the charger much. Sony includes a 3.5mm headphone cable in the box, too, which would extend your uptime to 50 hours. Great for smartphone use, the Sony WH-CH700N also have a microphone and buttons for summoning your virtual assistant, placing calls, and managing music playback, and pairing them couldn’t be simpler with its NFC chip. Once everything is set up, you can manage EQ levels, adjust the noise-canceling, and toy with a host of other settings in the Headphone Connect App, available on both iOS and Android.

Should you buy the Sony WH-CH700N?

As noted above, Sony has a more exciting pair of headphones available in the WH-1000XM3 featuring better overall build quality and neat gesture-based controls, but the WH-CH700N get mighty close as they have the same 1.57-inch dome-type driver — and for around a third of the cost. So if you’re shopping on a budget, these are without a shadow of a doubt the best wireless noise-canceling headphones under $100 this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

If you’re after something different — perhaps some true wireless earbuds, or something with water resistance — be sure to check out other great deals on headphones this Cyber Monday.

Sony WH-1000XM4 vs. Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700: Battle of the best
The Sony WH-1000XM4.

Sony and Bose have been locked in a heated battle for wireless headphone supremacy for years. As each company comes out with a new model, the other is never far behind. It's the kind of competition we love, because no matter which of them ends up on top, it's folks like us who ultimately win.

In 2018, Sony's WH-1000XM3 appeared and immediately started to win accolades (and customers) for their impressive sound quality and active noise cancellation (ANC), stealing some of Bose's thunder from its flagship QuietComfort QC-35 II. In 2019, Bose released its Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 in an attempt to unseat the XM3, and, in some respects, it succeeded, with superb call quality and better comfort.

Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Noise-Canceling Over-Ear Headphones

If you've only just started researching wireless headphones, let me give you the Cliff's Notes version: Until August 2020, the Sony WH-1000XM3 were the best wireless headphones and the best active noise-canceling (ANC) wireless headphones you could buy.

What changed in August, you ask? Sony debuted the follow-up to the XM3, predictably called the WH-1000XM4. For the same price as the XM3 -- $350 -- the XM4 comes with a slew of small but meaningful improvements, and they've now taken their rightful place at the top of our lists of recommended headphones.
