Irish MMA legend Conor McGregor is finally stepping back into the Octagon after a 15-month hiatus, and MMA fans around the world are looking forward to UFC 246, where “The Notorious” will be facing off against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight matchup. This is a pay-per-view event set to air exclusively on ESPN+ tonight, and if you haven’t signed up yet, then there’s still time to that lets you take $30 off the price of the UFC 246 PPV package.
ESPN+ is a premium online streaming service that’s purpose-made for cord-cutters and any other sports fans wanting to stream content any time, anywhere. The sports broadcaster was a bit slow in finally releasing its own streaming app (ESPN+ launched in 2018), but since then, it’s built a very close relationship with fighting promotions like the UFC, and it’s the only place you can watch pay-per-view events like UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cerrone.
Pay-per-view showings such as these always feature the biggest talent that professional boxing and MMA have to offer, but UFC 246 is something truly special. McGregor vs. Cerrone will be the first time in 15 months that MMA superstar McGregor — who had previously announced his retirement from the UFC — will be gracing the ring with his exciting in-your-face brawling style that has made him a fan favorite. Given that five of the six highest-grossing UFC pay-per-views in history have featured McGregor on the main card, it’s safe to say that UFC 246 will be huge.
The UFC 246 main event is also notable for being a welterweight match, with both Cerrone (36-13) and McGregor (21-4) expected to be fighting at around 170 pounds. This will be McGregor’s third fight as a welterweight (his first two both being against Nate Diaz, with a loss followed by a win). Cerrone has considerably more experience at 170, having fought as a welterweight from 2016 to 2018 before temporarily returning to lightweight. Whether this weight change will help Cerrone’s odds won’t be seen until both fighters step into the Octagon, but as of now, McGregor is the favorite to win.
