After an indefinite postponement due to ongoing public health concerns, UFC 249: Ferguson vs. Gaethje is officially back on with a star-studded roster of fighters who will be facing off this Saturday, May 9. The main card features two championship bouts and even the preliminary card has some all-star talent, so this is one UFC event you won’t want to miss – you’ll need ESPN+ to watch the UFC 249 livestream, though, and if you haven’t signed up yet, now’s your last chance to and save $30.
UFC 249 was originally scheduled to take place on April 18, with the main event being a long-anticipated showdown between undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, who would be challenging for the title. MMA fans have been waiting for this matchup for years, but for various reasons, it kept getting postponed — and the recent health crisis caused it to be canceled yet again when Khabib had to pull out of the match due to ongoing travel restrictions. UFC CEO Dana White quickly found a replacement for Khabib in Justin Gaethje before the event was postponed again at the request of both ESPN and public health officials.
Nonetheless, White promised that he would get the UFC back on schedule as soon as possible, and it wasn’t long before he had secured a new venue and a newly filled-out roster of fighters for UFC 249. Ferguson will still be facing off against Justin Gaethje in a contest for an interim lightweight title. The co-main event will be another title bout, with reigning bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo defending his title against Dominick Cruz. Cejudo was originally slated to defend his belt against Jose Aldo at UFC 250 but was moved to the UFC 249 during the rescheduling, giving fight fans two championship matches to look forward to on May 9.
Although the UFC usually reserves its top talent for the main card, the UFC 249 preliminary card actually features some notable MMA stars as well, including Donald Cerrone. Anthony Pettis, Aleksei Oleinik, and Ronaldo Souza. With talent like that and two championship matches, UFC 249: Ferguson vs. Gaethje is an event you don’t want to miss, but you’ll need ESPN+ to watch it live this weekend. If you haven’t signed on yet, then along with the UFC 249 PPV livestream package for only $85, saving you $30 off the price of buying them separately.
