XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be another reboot of a popular 1990s tactical PC game. The original XCOM came out in 1994 for PC and actually did get a Playstation port. The game play was tactical and turn-based involving human units versus alien invaders.
One nice thing about the reboot is that the new XCOM will still be a tactical turn-based game instead of switching it up to a FPS like Starbreeze tried with Syndicate.
This new video for XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a developer diary featuring members of the Firaxis development team. They discuss what inspired them about the original series what innovations they used from those games in their new version. Of course, tweaks and new features like the “glam cam” have been added.
At the moment XCOM: Enemy Unknown does not have a specific release date beyond Fall 2012. The game should be on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 when it gets released.
