Android games are about to get a built-in gaming buddy. Google has begun rolling out Play Games Sidekick, an in-game overlay designed to help you while playing Android titles downloaded from the Play Store.

The feature was first introduced last year as an AI guide for Android games. Instead of pausing the game and searching for guides on the web or walkthrough videos on YouTube, you can now ask your Sidekick for help directly on your screen.

How the AI gaming sidekick helps you play games on Android

Play Games Sidekick is powered by Gemini Live, Google’s conversational AI model. When you open the Sidekick overlay during gameplay, it can surface useful information related to the game you are playing.

It offers tips, tricks, and relevant gaming resources in one place so you can quickly find help without leaving the action.

The standout feature is the ability to talk to Gemini in real-time while you play. Using Gemini Live’s screen-sharing capabilities, Sidekick can understand what is happening in your game and provide guidance based on that context.

For example, if you are stuck on a difficult level or boss fight, you can ask Gemini what to do next by swiping from the right side of your screen. The AI assistant will analyze the gameplay view and give you tips directly through the overlay.

Sidekick also acts as a curated hub for game related information. You can check your Achievements, Play Points bonuses, Streaks, and other gamer profile-powered features all in one place.

The Sidekick overlay can be opened whenever you need help and closed just as easily when you want to concentrate on gameplay. You can also disable the feature anytime from the Settings menu.

It currently works with around 90 Play Store games, including Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and Dungeon Clawler. Google says that support for more titles is coming soon.

The announcement came during the Game Developers Conference 2026, where Google also revealed several other Play Store updates, including new free game trials for select titles and a dedicated PC hub for gamers.

The company also introduced a “buy once, play anywhere” model that lets you purchase a game once and play it across Android phones and PCs.

The debate around GTA 6's "physical" edition just got another twist. Rockstar has confirmed on its official website that PS5 download codes included with physical copies of Grand Theft Auto VI sold in Japan will expire 170 days after the game's November 19, 2026 launch date. That means players who don't redeem the code before roughly May 8, 2027 could be left with nothing more than an empty game box, even though they purchased a physical copy. The company says the policy is required due to regional regulations in Japan.

Lenovo gaming monitor render

Fresh off launching a metallic Hall-effect keyboard and a 59g gaming mouse for flashy esports setups, Lenovo has turned its attention to gamers working with much tighter budgets. The Legion 24-1r looks made for broke college students who spent way too much on their first gaming rig and now have instant noodles doing most of the heavy lifting at dinner. It costs just 669 yuan, equivalent to around $99, yet offers a 23.8-inch IPS panel running at up to 280Hz.

Lenovo is also offering the 27-inch Legion 27-1r with the same core specifications for 789 yuan, or roughly $116. For the ramen-budget crowd chasing competitive frame rates, both look like seriously tempting deals. (via NotebookCheck)
