While the official title of the project has yet to be announced, developer Critical Mass Interactive confirmed both the game’s existence and the involvement of the Boondock Saints cast in a recent interview, and shared a few details about what we can expect when the film’s MacManus brothers make their debut in the gaming world.
“We don’t want to do a crap-ass franchise game,” Critical Mass president and CEO Matt Scibilia told G4TV. “We’re staying true to the content. We’re looking to expand the story, not just retell the franchise.”
Describing the game as a “full-on, co-op shooter,” Scibilia said the project is being developed for the PC and Xbox 360, with a Playstation 3 port a possibility. Although the developer is hoping to make it a full retail release, there’s a distinct possibility that it will be released in downloadable, episodic form.
The cast of Boondock Saints is hosting a panel at SXSW in March, so more details about the game are likely to be revealed then. Critical Mass is also planning to start showing off the game at PAX East in April and at E3 a few months later.
“The Boondock Saints characters are so strong — the banter, the relationships between Rocco and the brothers, the Catholicism, that will all be featured in the game,” said Scibilia.
