Call of Duty: Black Ops II multiplayer suffers problems on PS3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 opened big this week, none too surprising considering the series’ role as national video game pastime in the US. Activision’s latest game of shoot-and-run sold 1 million copies at retailer GameStop before its first day on shelves was done. Consider then how many copies it must have sold around the world, through other retailers and digital distribution channels. Also unsurprising then: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s online multiplayer has had a few troubles running under the strain of a massive new audience.

In particular, the PlayStation 3 version of Black Ops 2 has been suffering from connectivity issues. Users on the official PlayStation 3 forums have been reporting problems getting onto multiplayer servers as well as redeeming codes for additional downloadable content like the Nuketown 2025 maps.

Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar, game design director on Black Ops 2, assured fans via Twiter that the studio was working on the problems. “We are indeed up and running, but we are also aware not everyone can connect. We are investigating something with our partners at Sony. We are currently testing backend matchmaking changes that we think can help with this. I don’t have a timetable, or I would tell you. The ‘Waiting to balance teams’ thing is something else entirely. More on that shortly.”

The old format of Zombies has been left behind in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in favor of a more open-world, objective-based take on the undead survival game type. This time, you will squad up and drop into a map with specific objectives you can choose to complete to earn tons of XP, while also pushing the narrative forward and unlocking new, more difficult tasks to take on. The early-tier missions are generally very simple, but in Act 1, you will be given the objective to find and destroy a Mercenary Convoy somewhere on the map. This sounds easy enough on paper until you realize you have no idea where this convey is or how to find it. Every run in Zombies risks losing all your hard-earned progress, so we'll lead you to the Mercenary Convoy to take it out before the zombies even know you were there.
How to find the Mercenary Convoy

Your first challenge will be to find this Mercenary Convoy. The problem here is twofold: first is that it isn't marked on your map in any way, and second is that, being a convoy, it is mobile. Once you land, you and your team should find the nearest vehicle and head toward the center of the map. Depending on how the threat levels are on your particular map, you are looking for roads and highways that are around the medium-threat level zone. You will have to patrol these roads until you come across the convoy, which only consists of three vehicles. Once you are in range, it does appear on your map to let you know you've found it.

How to get two primary weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Building your loadout in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the same as crafting your build in an RPG. Which weapons and perks you take can completely change how you play and what role you should take in any given match. Typically, you are restricted to equipping a primary and secondary weapon, but previous titles included a perk that allowed you to double up on primary weapons to essentially play double duty. That perk, Overkill, isn't in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, so you will need to look for a different solution to get two primary weapons this time around.
How to equip two primary weapons

Instead of the Overkill perk giving you space to carry two primary weapons, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 introduces the Gunner Vest. This is a piece of gear rather than a perk, and can be unlocked when you hit level 20, or you can use the Overkill vest when you hit level 50. The Gunner vest lets you start with more ammo, reload faster, and, most importantly, equip two primary weapons.
