Fortnite challenge guide: Eliminate IO guards

Arguably the hardest challenge of Fortnite season 5, week 10 requires you to eliminate five IO guards. These are tough NPCs that spawn in various fixed locations around the map. There are a few things to know about completing this challenge. For starters, you have to complete the prerequisites before starting this one. First, you must eliminate an enemy with a common weapon, then you have to deal 300 melee damage, and finally, you must upgrade three weapons at various NPCs around the map. These can be done in separate matches.

Once you do those, you’ll be able to begin the challenge for defeating five IO guards. It’s a hard challenge due to the number of prerequisites you need to complete beforehand — and the IO guards are no pushovers, either. In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know about completing this challenge. Here’s how to defeat IO guards in Fortnite.

Where to find IO guards

Luckily, there are several different spots that contain IO guards. Above is a map with all of their locations (thanks, Fortnite.gg). The main thing to know is that IO guards spawn in packs of three, meaning you’ll have to visit two of the above locations to defeat all five. This can be done in the same match, thankfully, so if you land somewhere like Salty Towers, you should be in the vicinity of multiple IO guard spawns. Otherwise, your progress does carry over from match to match.

The guards come up from within an underground structure that elevates when you get close. The one thing to take note of is that each IO guard location spawns once. So, if you’ve already defeated the guards at a certain spot, they don’t spawn again. If you visit a location and can’t seem to get the guards to spawn, that’s why.

After you’ve completed the three prerequisites and have gotten stocked up on supplies like weapons, armor, and healing items, make a sprint toward one of the locations above. Assuming the guards spawn, do your best to take them out from behind cover. Of course, headshots are going to be your best friend here, and try not to engage while you’re out in the open. It’s best to attempt this with a squad, as they can assist in eliminating the guards while covering your back.

If you get hurt, retreat quickly and heal. The guards tend to come toward you fast, so you’ll want to be quick when maneuvering in and out of cover. They can even destroy structures you’re hiding in or behind, so be aware of that. Once you defeat three, you’ll need to visit one more location to grab the other two. After you’ve eliminated (not downed) five, you’ll complete the challenge and gain 20,000 XP.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth gift guide: best gifts for every character
Kiryu and Kasuga grasp hands in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Who wouldn't want to be friends with a guy like Ichiban? The guy is a bundle of optimistic joy and positivity. Sure, you'll likely get into more than a couple of brawls with him, but that only strengthens your bond, right? That's how it works in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, anyway. There are many ways you can increase Ichiban's bond level with his various party members, and even other people on the street you bump into, but one of the easiest (although expensive) ways is to give them the perfect gift. Instead of grinding out your bond level through battles or slow conversations, why not buy your way into your friend's heart? The only tricky part is knowing each character well enough to tell what gift they will appreciate most and where you can snag it.
Best gifts for each character

Each of the main party members in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has their own personality and style. You wouldn't get much love from Nanba by giving him some makeup or Adachi some flowers, after all. There's no wrong gift you can give technically since no matter what you give someone it will increase your Bond level, however, these objects raise it more than the others.

Fortnite is coming back to iOS, but Epic Games still isn’t happy about it
Solid Snake aiming a pistol out of a box in Fortnite.

Fortnite is set to come back to iOS in Europe sometime in 2024. This will mark the first time a natively running version of Fortnite will be available on iOS since Apple removed the game from the App Store in 2020.

Apple did so at the time because Epic tried to use its own third-party payment system, kicking off a series of legal battles in an attempt to get Apple to open up its platform more. Although those legal battles have yielded mixed results for Epic, a newly passed Digital Markets Act in the European Union is forcing Apple to do things like "allow third parties to inter-operate with the gatekeeper’s own services in certain specific situations" and "allow their business users to promote their offer and conclude contracts with their customers outside the gatekeeper’s platform."

Key art for Rock Band 4

Harmonix revealed that the January 25 DLC tracks for Rock Band 4 will be the final new ones added to the game.

This ends a streak of more than eight years of weekly DLC for the rhythm game. Ever since Rock Band 4 was released in October 2015, new DLC songs have been made available for purchase every week, giving the game one of the most impressive live service tails in the industry. Ultimately, Harmonix says it will have released nearly 3,000 songs as DLC for Rock Band 4 after the final content drop next week, and that live service support for seasons and online play will "continue as normal" after next week.
