Fortnite challenge guide: Eliminate IO guards

Arguably the hardest challenge of Fortnite season 5, week 10 requires you to eliminate five IO guards. These are tough NPCs that spawn in various fixed locations around the map. There are a few things to know about completing this challenge. For starters, you have to complete the prerequisites before starting this one. First, you must eliminate an enemy with a common weapon, then you have to deal 300 melee damage, and finally, you must upgrade three weapons at various NPCs around the map. These can be done in separate matches.

Once you do those, you’ll be able to begin the challenge for defeating five IO guards. It’s a hard challenge due to the number of prerequisites you need to complete beforehand — and the IO guards are no pushovers, either. In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know about completing this challenge. Here’s how to defeat IO guards in Fortnite.

Where to find IO guards

Luckily, there are several different spots that contain IO guards. Above is a map with all of their locations (thanks, Fortnite.gg). The main thing to know is that IO guards spawn in packs of three, meaning you’ll have to visit two of the above locations to defeat all five. This can be done in the same match, thankfully, so if you land somewhere like Salty Towers, you should be in the vicinity of multiple IO guard spawns. Otherwise, your progress does carry over from match to match.

The guards come up from within an underground structure that elevates when you get close. The one thing to take note of is that each IO guard location spawns once. So, if you’ve already defeated the guards at a certain spot, they don’t spawn again. If you visit a location and can’t seem to get the guards to spawn, that’s why.

After you’ve completed the three prerequisites and have gotten stocked up on supplies like weapons, armor, and healing items, make a sprint toward one of the locations above. Assuming the guards spawn, do your best to take them out from behind cover. Of course, headshots are going to be your best friend here, and try not to engage while you’re out in the open. It’s best to attempt this with a squad, as they can assist in eliminating the guards while covering your back.

If you get hurt, retreat quickly and heal. The guards tend to come toward you fast, so you’ll want to be quick when maneuvering in and out of cover. They can even destroy structures you’re hiding in or behind, so be aware of that. Once you defeat three, you’ll need to visit one more location to grab the other two. After you’ve eliminated (not downed) five, you’ll complete the challenge and gain 20,000 XP.

Concord beginners guide: 5 tips to get started
A sniper from Concord leaping in the air.

Shooters have evolved to the point where simply having good aim isn't enough to dominate a match anymore. Games like Concord have all embraced the hero shooter genre and done away with the generic characters we played in games like the original Halos and Call of Dutys. Beyond learning the unique characters, there are the maps, modes, and little intricacies you have to pick up on to fully master the game. Jumping into Concord, you might think just finding your main and running games will be fine, but there's a bit more going on under the hood and systems that you will want to understand that the game isn't all that clear about. Let's get you ready to be the next best Freegunner in the galaxy with these tips and tricks.
Experiment with your characters

Concord has 16 Freegunners to pick from, which is a bit daunting. The developers did a great job making each one unique, but they are also not very well organized in terms of knowing which falls into which role. Unlike Overwatch, which clearly divides its roster into roles, you need to read and experiment with characters to understand how they fit into the flow of combat. Give each character a few runs to really test out, and ideally try them in different game modes as well. Some characters are far more useful in objective game types than in pure deathmatch types. Make sure you also don't just stick to one character you like and that's it. Each character can only be used on a team once, so if someone else picks them first, you'll be out of luck, but there are also two more strong reasons to have a small handful of characters you're comfortable with we'll get to later.

Minecraft potions guide: how to brew and enhance potions
A villager looks at a sunset.

If you think about it, mixing potions isn't all that different from mixing materials to make items in Minecraft. That is just conceptually speaking because the act of brewing potions is not nearly as simple or straightforward as just organizing a couple of sticks and stones in a grid. Potions require a bit more nuance and preparation to make, but the effects they can have are quite literally game-changing.

There's a lot you need to do to get started mixing up your own potions, and once you have the tools required, there's no instruction manual on how to make the dozens of possible potions, let alone the best ones. If you want to allow yourself to walk through lava and see in the dark without the use of mods, check out this full potions guide.

The cast of Zenless Zone Zero poses.

Whether you've been looking forward to the latest game from HoYoverse, saw that hype music video with DJ Tiesto, or are just in the market for a new free-to-play action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero has all the style and action you could hope for.

Unlike the developer's previous projects, this game is set in a postapocalyptic city called New Eridu that is under siege by interdimensional monsters called Ethereal. Your character is a Proxy who must venture through portals to fight the Ethereal and find resources to keep humanity alive. The game does share some elements with previous HoYoverse titles, but plays very differently than the likes of Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail. To help you get a leg up on the Ethereal, take note of these tips when getting started.
