Fortnite season 9, week 7 challenge guide: Search a chest, use a vending machine, and a campfire

The futuristic Fortnite season nine continues to trudge on as we begin to near the end of it. As always, another Thursday means another set of challenges for players to complete in battle royale. Like last week and the week before it, this week has some fairly generic challenges to take on minus one particular challenge. This challenge tasks players with searching chests at Junk Junction or Neo Tilted, and using a vending machine and a campfire all in a single match. Before we jump into how to complete these tasks, here are all the challenges you can expect to find in Fortnite: Battle Royale this week.

Check out our guide to all the challenges in the 14 Days of Summer event.

As always, you can find the full list of the new challenges this week in our nifty screenshot above, as well as listed out below. There are a total of seven challenges this week, three available to everyone and four challenges that are only for those who own the battle pass. If you don’t have the season pass at this point, you can still buy it but keep in mind that it’s possible you won’t have enough time to reach that coveted tier 100 and get its exclusive skin.

Free Challenges

  • Search chests at Junk Junction or Neo Titlted (0/7)
  • Search ammo boxes in different named locations (0/7)
  • Suppressed weapon eliminations (0/3)

Battle Pass Challenges

  • Deal damage to opponents while riding in a vehicle (0/200)
  • Stage 1 of 3 – Visit The Block and Loot Lake in a single match (0/2)
  • Search a chest, use a vending machine, and a campfire in a single match (0/3)
  • Eliminations from 5m or less (0/3)

As you can see from the list of week seven challenges, the challenges this week are fairly predictable. Deal damage to enemies, land at certain named locations, and so on. These are all challenges that you’ve likely seen before if you’ve played even a handful of battle royale seasons. However, there is one challenge that isn’t too different from the rest but what it asks you to do is a lot more difficult. That challenge has you search a chest, and use a vending machine and campfire.

Chest, vending machine, and campfire challenge

This week seven challenge is simple enough to grasp but potentially hard to accomplish. You need to search a chest, use a vending machine, and a campfire in a single match. Now, it is possible that you’ve done all three of those tasks at some point in a game but have you done all three within the same match? Therein lies the difficulty in this challenge.

It can be pretty easy to find a chest or vending machine, but finding and using all of them within one match is challenging given that you only have so much time. This does mean, however, that you will be done with this challenge much quicker than other ones since it only requires a single match. We have some tips for ensuring that you don’t have to retry this challenge.

We highly recommended that you complete this challenge in the Team Rumble mode. This big team mode has a lot of players on your team, fewer enemies on the opposing team to worry about, and respawns. You also have more time to search for these three objects before you have to make your way to the enclosing circle.

Also, if you’re having trouble with this challenge, be sure to turn on the Party Assist feature that can be accessed in the challenges tab of the main lobby. This feature allows your squadmates to help you progress the challenge together. It’s a great way to split up from your team, divide up duties between you, and help each other complete this challenge. Here is where you can find the three objects.

Where to find chests

To kick this challenge off, the first thing you need to find is a chest and you can do this in any order you want. For chests, your best bet is to head to residential areas or somewhere where there are a lot of hidden areas. Places like attics of houses, basements, behind walls, and so on. Turn up the volume and listen for the signature chest sound nearby. It’s also best to go to named locations for chests rather than wander around.

Where to find vending machines

Vending machines are a little bit trickier to find than chests but there are still plenty of them to go around. Unlike chests, a large portion of the vending machines are hidden in remote locations far from the named areas. However, almost all named locations and even some unnamed landmarks like the hot springs have at least one vending machine so be sure to just head to the nearest named area.

The great thing about vending machines is that you don’t have to worry about someone using it all up like with chests. Though someone can destroy one for sure, you can still use a vending machine that’s already been used by another player.

Where to find campfires

Now, campfires are by far the hardest to find out of the three objects in this challenge. With campfires, you aren’t guaranteed that you will find one at a named location as many of them don’t have one. Instead, a lot of the campfires are in foresty and remote areas as that makes sense. As such, we recommend heading to the Viking village or Lonely Lodge for finding campfires.

Recommended locations

There are a few locations that we recommend you head to for this week seven challenge. These spots are the best for finding the three objects within the same match because they all can be found within close proximity from one another. The first location is Paradise Palms. Within the city itself or right on the outskirts, you can find a chest, vending machine, and campfire easily.

Another great location is Neo Tilted. There are numerous vending machines and chests, and there is one campfire that you can find on the northern end of the city. If you’re looking for a spot with more campfires, Lonely Lodge is another solid option because it has a total of three around it and it’s an unpopular location so you shouldn’t run into too many players.

The final location that we recommend is Snobby Shore. Like Lonely Lodge, it’s not a very popular spot and you can find all three of the objects there. Plus, the Viking village is nearby with more campfires and chests. All you need to do to complete this challenge is open up a chest, use a vending machine, and light a campfire to heal yourself.

Chest, vending machine, and campfire challenge reward

You have to complete all three parts to get the reward for this challenge. Once you’re done, leave or finish the match and you will receive 10 battle stars, which are enough to grant you one tier.
