THQ’s meltdown over the past two years has been painful to watch. Talented game makers working on series like Red Faction, Homefront, and many others lost their jobs. A number of very promising looking games got cancelled in the process as well. Tomonobu Itagaki’s Devil’s Third for example would have been a fascinating Japanese take on multiplayer shooting while Guillermo Del Toro’s Insane likely would have given horror gaming a desperately needed shot in the arm. Who needs THQ though? Itagaki’s studio won back the rights to Devil’s Third and now Insane looks like it’s going to get a second chance as well.
Horror blog Bloody Disgusting reported that this week that Del Toro began pitching other studios on the project immediately after THQ dropped the game from its production schedule in August. Apparently the very first studio approached by Del Toro took on the project. The exact studio that’s signed on to take the game’s reins hasn’t been divulged yet, but Del Toro says the game will now be released in 2015.
Insane was first announced at the Spike Video Game Awards back in 2010, but outside of a short teaser and confirmation that the game would be in the survival horror genre, that’s all that’s known. Saints Row developer Volition was working with Del Toro and comic book illustrator Guy Davis on the game.
