PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary in a big way. We already saw the limited-edition PS5 and PS5 Pro themed after the iconic PS1, as well as the throwback DualShock controller. However, there was one secret little blast of nostalgia no one saw coming until a mysterious update arrived. Players can relive the glory days of PlayStation with new themes that mimic the older consoles, including the PS1. However, there is a catch to all this, so let's break down how you can take advantage of these themes while you still can.

How to use the 30th anniversary PlayStation themes

The good thing about these themes is that they're all completely free. As long as your PS5 is connected to the internet and downloads the update, you can use whichever one tickles your nostalgia.

Step 1: By default, your PS5 will boot up with the classic PS1 sound and logo.

Step 2: To change it to the PS2, PS3, or PS4 themes, first go to Settings.

Step 3: Select Appearance and Sound.

Step 4: You can now pick between 30th Anniversary, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

Step 5: Each one will change your console's startup animation and sound, as well as the appearance of your home screen and sound effects.

As cool as these themes are, PlayStation has said they are only temporary. It wasn't specific on when the themes would disappear or why, so you should take advantage of them while you can. Hopefully PlayStation realizes how much we love them and decides to bring them back permanently.

Back-to-School sales are everywhere right now, but gaming accessories are one category where it's surprisingly easy to end up with outdated gear that only looks like a bargain. A real deal isn't just about a lower price, but it also needs to be a product that's still genuinely worth buying. After digging through this year's discounts, I kept coming back to the same three products. Whether it's a lightweight esports mouse, a comfortable wireless headset, or a controller that turns a phone into a handheld console, these are the accessories I'd actually recommend picking up while they're on sale.
