How to transfer your Marvel’s Spider-Man save from PS4 to PS5

Though it wasn’t the original plan, Insomniac Games has implemented a way to transfer your Marvel’s Spider-Man save from the PlayStation 4 to the Remastered PS5 version. The update has recently gone live, and while the transfer process works well, there are a few steps you need to take to get it to work.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to transfer your PS4 save to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5, step by step.

Before you attempt anything, you’ll need to have both versions of the game: Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 and Remastered on PS5. You can use the digital or physical edition of the PS4 game — but keep in mind that Remastered is only available on PS5 digitally. Both need to be updated to their latest versions, and you must use the same PSN account across both.

To start, load up your copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4. This can be done via a PS4 or through the PS5 using backward compatibility. If you have the disc, simply insert it into the PS5 system. If you have a digital copy, you’ll need to specifically download the PS4 game onto your system. Make sure it’s the PS4 version and not the Remastered edition on PS5. To download it, head to your Game Library on PS5, and you’ll be able to categorize your list by platform. Filter it by PS4 games, and you’ll see your PS4 copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man here. Download it, and you’ll be ready to go.

Once you’ve booted up the PS4 version, press R1 from the game’s main menu to upload the save of your choice. You’ll get a notice that says “Upload Save?” Press X to continue, and assuming you’re connected to the internet and are using the game’s latest update, it’ll tell you it’s successful.

Overnight we released an update for Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 bringing those suits, and the ability to export your save to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

We also updated Remastered to allow import of those exported saves and with many additional fixes (incl. rest mode crash) https://t.co/LVnYVykc0Q

The next step is to boot up your copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. After you’ve loaded into the main menu, press R1 to download the PS4 console save. A text box will then appear that reads “Download PS4 Console Save?” Press X to confirm, and it’ll tell you it’s successful. Now, you’ll be able to pick up right where you left off on PS4.

The best part is that every trophy you unlocked on the PS4 version will automatically unlock for PS5, meaning if you got the platinum the first time around, you’ll get it again with almost zero effort. Since there are two trophy lists, you’re basically double dipping, which is a neat feature for trophy hunters.

PlayStation 5 controller and PS5.

The Sony PlayStation 5 has been on the market for a few years now -- and although it may not be the world’s fastest console, it’s a significant upgrade over the PlayStation 4. GTA 5 cheat codes for PS5, PS4, Xbox, and PC
Trevor firing an assault rifle in GTA 5.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the bestselling games of all time, well exceeding 100 million copies sold. It's easy to see why, too. Rockstar's signature sandbox franchise has always attracted large crowds, and its latest iteration -- which is weird to say, given that GTA 5 was released seven years ago -- is no different. The sandbox has never looked as good or been as open. GTA 5 may be bigger and better than its predecessors, but Rockstar hasn't lost the key aspects that make the series fun. Among them are cheat codes.

Cheat codes have been a mainstay of the Grand Theft Auto series for years. From spawning a few vehicles to loading your gun with flaming bullets, cheat codes turn GTA 5 into a god game, where you can control the parameters of the sandbox you're playing in. No matter what platform you're playing on, these GTA 5 cheats and secrets will work.

PS5 themes: Can you customize your homescreen?
A person plays Crash Bandicoot using a PS5 DualSense controller.

The PS5 launched with many features we loved from the PS4 missing. Over the years, a few have come back, but one that many aren't sure about is themes. These could be earned, downloaded, purchased, or come included with certain games that gave your home screen a new look and background soundtrack related to different games or concepts. This made customizing your home screen that much more fun and personal. However, is this feature on the PS5? Here's whether or not you can put custom themes on your new console, or change the background.
Does the PS5 have themes?

No, the PS5 does not have any themes. Instead, whenever you highlight a game or app on your home screen, the background will change to art related to that game, as well as show more information on it. While far from ideal, it is the closest we are likely to get to the themes we had on our PS4.
Can you change the background on a PS5?
Again, due to the PS5 dynamically changing the background depending on what you're currently looking at, there's no way to alter your background at this time. Since the background is constantly changing, even if you had a custom image, it would always be changing as you cycled through games. There are a few other ways you can customize your PS5, however, unless Sony gives us the option with an update, there's no way to set a theme on your PS5.
