Can you still unlock the iKONIK skin in Fortnite?

Fortnite is no stranger to exclusive, limited-time skins. Typically, Epic Games will give the community a specific amount of time to unlock or purchase certain outfits or emotes — whether they be offered through partnerships with other companies or seasonal events, or simply for sale from the item shop. One of the most sought-after was the iKONIK skin, which was based on singer Jung Chanwoo/Chan from K-pop group iKON.

This skin and emote set was previously only obtainable by purchasing certain Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, or S10e smartphones in 2019 through a partnership with Samsung. You had to have pre-ordered one of select phones and downloaded the mobile version of Fortnite on the device to “purchase” the skin for $0 from the item shop. Now, in 2021, players are still wondering if this iKONIK skin is still obtainable, or if it’ll make a return to the item shop.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you’ll need to know about the iKONIK skin in Fortnite.

The short answer is no, you cannot unlock the iKONIK skin in Fortnite anymore. As of September, 2019, the offer expired and was replaced by a different exclusive skin. Sometimes, Epic Games offers an additional way to unlock certain skins after the initial launch, but considering the iKONIK set was part of an exclusive partnership, it’s very unlikely it will return. At the very least, if it does come back, you shouldn’t expect to be able to purchase it from the item shop like you normally would.

If anything, it could reappear through another exclusive Samsung event — just like when it first debuted, but don’t count on being able to buy it outright. This might come as a disappointment to many fans, as the iKONIK skin is one of the most sought-after outfits in the entire game. Certain YouTubers have made videos claiming the skin could return, but there has been no official confirmation from Epic Games about this.

Fortnite is currently in its fifth season, as part of chapter 2. This particular season is based on The Mandalorian, and features major map changes, new NPCs to interact with, and a ton of skins and cosmetics to unlock (one of which is a Baby Yoda Back Bling). Limited-time skins such as Master Chief from Halo, Predator, Kratos from God of War, and Daryl Dixon and Michonne from The Walking Dead have all made an appearance.

Season 5 of Fortnite is expected to run until mid March 2021, when we’ll see the debut of season 6. This will presumably come with new map changes, additional skins, quests, and a lot more to enjoy.

How to give specialist a command in Fortnite
Character interacting with NPC in Fortnite.

As part of Fortnite's Spring Breakout Daily Quests, players are tasked with giving a hired specialist character a command. Of course, the game doesn't specify how to do this exactly, leading to some confusion amongst the community. Thankfully, we've got everything you need to know about completing this new quest with ease in Fortnite.
How to hire a specialist

Specialist Characters are specific NPCs all around the map. If you pull up the quest itself, you'll actually see a map of all the Specialist Characters. Keep in mind that not all NPCs fall into this category, so be sure to look at the map. We like the one to the very north of Breakwater Bay as it's usually out of the way. Once you find them, you'll need to pay 200 Gold Bars to hire them. If you don't have the funds, be sure to play more and complete bounties as needed.
How to give a character a command
After you've hired the Specialist Character, they'll be on your side for the duration of the match. If you look at the top left side of the screen, you'll see an icon that represents the Follower Communications wheel. Press and hold left on the D-pad on console or the middle mouse button on PC to get this menu to appear. Once it does, you can pick from a list of commands such as wait or follow. To complete the quest, you simply need to issue one command and after the NPC does what you ask, you'll earn credit for completing it.

Fortnite lawsuit: Are you eligible for a refund from Epic Games?
New characters in Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4.

Fortnite developer Epic Games is being hit with $520 million in fines by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and there's a chance that you could get a payout.

Out of that $520 million total, $245 million is set to be refunded to customers. Refunds are meant to go to those affected by the company's billing and refund practices -- mainly players (and parents of younger players) who were charged for unwanted cosmetics and were met with account locks if they tried to dispute the charges with their credit card companies.

You can still get a Thunder Shotgun in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. Here’s how
Fortnite characters in a city.

Fortnite has received plenty of exciting new weapons in Chapter 4 Season 2, and in typical fashion, Epic has also vaulted some of last season's weapons to clean up the loot pool. Among the weapons vaulted for Season 2 is the Thunder Shotgun -- but weirdly, it can still be obtained, as it appears Epic possibly overlooked one NPC who drops it.

Anyone who wants to score the Thunder Shotgun in Season 2 can head over to Frenzy Fields and look for the NPC named Sunflower who walks around the farm. Simply eliminate her and pick up the weapon she drops. It's unclear if this is actually something Epic missed, or if the team just simply didn't want to bother changing up Sunflower's loot drops. Either way, it's currently the only way to obtain the Thunder Shotgun.
