Critics, players, academics, and game designers lauded Journey as one of 2012’s most moving and powerful video games. Thatgamecompany’s cooperative experiment moved people with its contemplative exploration, silent sharing of space with others, and its visual and aural beauty. Composer Austin Wintory was largely responsible for the aural impact of the game, composing its score. His upcoming project is a logical next step from Journey’s digital spiritualism: Wintory is composing the score for Replay Games’ remake of Leisure Suit Larry.

Maybe it’s a stretch to say that the alternately hushed and triumphant ambient music of Journey should logically lead into the disco-infused sleeze of Al Lowe’s classic adventure games, but it’s still pretty awesome that Wintory is lending his talents to the project. Journey is also what landed him the gig.

“Al Lowe, the original creator, reached out to me a little while ago,” Wintory told Polygon, “The team that’s remaking it, Replay Games, they had been fans of Journey. It’s actually shocking that they would think to call me because they couldn’t be more opposite of each other.”

Opposite or not, Wintory’s pleased about the opportunity to write “seedy, back alley kind of stuff” as Lowe put it. “This was like a fantasy to work on a game like that,” said Wintory.
