Nintendo announces massive content infusion for Mario Golf: World Tour

Announced last year for the 3DS, Mario Golf: World Tour already offers a wealth of content with 10 courses, 126 holes, various multiplayer modes, as well as support for regional and worldwide tournaments. Players itching for more, though, will soon be sated, as today Nintendo revealed a plan for a series of three DLC packages that will add a total of 108 new holes and additional Mushroom Kingdom golfers.

Starting on May 2 with the Mushroom Pack, more DLC will soon follow with the Flower Pack later that month, and finally the Star Pack in June. Each pack includes two new 18-hole courses and an additional playable character, with Toadette in the Mushroom Pack, Nabbit in the Flower Pack, and Rosalina in the Star Pack.

All three packs will be available for $5.99 apiece from Toad’s Booth, which can be found in the game’s main menu. Those golfers that know they’ll want all three can buy them at a discounted Season Pass rate of $14.99, starting May 2. The Mushroom Pack will be downloadable right away, with the two subsequent releases unlocking as they become available. Season Pass holders will also receive a Gold Mario playable character, which features a special Golden Flower Shot that generates a bonus of three coins for every yard the ball travels. Gold Mario will also be unlocked for players that buy all three packs separately.

Nintendo will also offer Trial Tournaments for those looking to test out the new courses before purchasing. All players that own the game and download the Trial Pack will be able to participate in these tournaments.

Nintendo’s Wii Shop Channel and DSi shops are back online
Nintendo 3DS close-up.

After months of service outages, Nintendo's Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop are back online.

Nintendo's two virtual marketplace services went down in March of this year. In a statement to Kotaku on the outage, Nintendo acknowledged the downtime but had nothing to report other than that the shops were undergoing maintenance and that it would provide updates on them at a later date. It seems it completely skipped the update and simply put both back online instead.

Everything announced at the June 2022 Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase
Mario, Rabbid Peach, and more characters pose in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope key art.

Lagging behind a strong State of Play from Sony and an excellent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase from Microsoft, Nintendo has now held a presentation of its own. It's not a full-blown Nintendo Direct, though. Instead, this June 28 presentation is a Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, the first of its kind since 2020. As the showcase's name suggests, this is shorter than a typical Nintendo Direct and mainly focused on what third-party developers and publishers are bringing to Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
As Nintendo has said that this presentation would contain "roughly 25 minutes of info on upcoming third-party #NintendoSwitch games" on Twitter, don't expect the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 or Metroid Prime 4 to show up here. Still, there are plenty of cool games like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope that make an appearance here, and we have a clearer idea of what the biggest third-party Nintendo Switch games of 2022 are. We kept track of everything announced during the Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, so you can look below and see everything Nintendo and its partners revealed throughout the event.

Nier Automata is coming to Nintendo Switch

In one of the most notable announcements of this Partner Showcase, we learned that the critically acclaimed Nier Automata is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. It's one of PlatinumGames' best titles and has an amazing story, so be sure to check this out on Switch if you haven't already. It's also a native port, and not a cloud version either. Nier Automata: The End of YoRHa Edition launches on October 6.

Return to Monkey Island | Gameplay Reveal Trailer
After it was confirmed earlier this year, we finally got a deeper look at Return to Monkey Island's story and gameplay. It's got a distinct and pretty new art style and looks faithful to how the old Monkey Island games play, so hopefully, it lives up to series fans' lofty expectations. It will be released in 2022.

Super Nintendo World is set to open at Universal Studios Hollywood in early 2023. Universal announced the opening date for the Nintendo-themed attraction on Thursday, which is a more firm launch window than has been previously given.

To commemorate the announcement of Super Nintendo World's stateside opening date, Universal Studios posted a few pictures and a video of the signature ride, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge. The ride is an AR-on-rails experience where guests put on AR glasses shaped like Mario's hat and ride in a four-seat Mario Kart-style go-kart in a race to beat Team Bowser.
