‘Rime’ leads the charge for February’s PlayStation Plus offerings

Sony revealed February’s PlayStation Plus freebies and we think this might just be one of the best slates of offerings in quite some time, especially for PS4 owners with an interest in adventure.

PlayStation 4 users can snag Rime, the 2017 puzzle-adventure game that we called gorgeous and moving in our review. In Rime, you play as an unnamed boy who has washed up on a strange island. Rendered in eye-catching cartoonish visuals, you explore the wondrous island, solving puzzles and completing platforming sequences throughout the game’s five sections. Rime tells an emotional story that remains a clever mystery until the very end. It’s rare that a game as new as Rime finds itself on a PS Plus list, so PS4 owners should certainly give it a go.

Balancing the new with the old, the second PS4 game takes users all the way back to the PS4’s 2013 launch in Knack. The first-party exclusive doesn’t have the best reputation (although Knack 2 fared a bit better), but if you haven’t played the family-friendly platformer, it’s definitely not the worst way to spend a rainy (or snowy!) day.

Thanks to cross-buy, PS4 users can also nab the tactical RPG Grand Kingdom, designated as one of the PlayStation Vita’s February freebies. Set in a fantasy world populated by humans and demons, Grand Kingdom features turn-based combat, a single player campaign, and online multiplayer that works across Vita and PS4. Vita users can go back in time with Exile’s End, a side-scrolling action adventure that pays homage to the Commodore 64 with its gameplay and aesthetic.

PS3 users can pick up Spelunker HD, a remake of the 1985 NES version of the arcade game. The game includes 110 caverns to explore, each of which is filled with an array of bats, ghosts, spiders and other enemies, as well as oodles of treasure to unearth. Mugen Souls Z, an anime RPG, rounds out February’s free games on PS3.

In addition to the six new games, the PSVR title Starblood Arena remains free until March 6. If you haven’t already, make sure to claim January’s free games before February’s lineup takes over on February 6.

PlayStation Plus’ most notable free April offerings come from Microsoft
Four players stand together in the 4v4 PvP mode of Minecraft Legends.

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.

When will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth be on PC?
final fantasy vii rebirth ending analysis 7 tifa aerith cloud

PlayStation 5 players have been raving about the second part of the FF7 remake project Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. As with the first part, it was made clear well in advance that this game would be a PlayStation exclusive at launch, however, we did eventually get Remake of the first part on PC around a year later. This gives PC players hope that the same treatment will be given to Rebirth, but the big question becomes how long will we have to wait this time? Is it possible to see it come to PC storefronts faster than its prequel, or will we need to bide our time avoiding spoilers for months on end? Here's our best estimate as to when you can expect to see Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC.
What is the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC release date?

The sad fact of the matter is we don't have an official release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC or any other platform at this time. But there is reason to at least hope that the wait won't be as long this time around. Our only clue is that the marketing for Rebirth states that it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive until at least May 29, 2024. That's exactly three months after its initial release.

PlayStation VR2 production reportedly paused by Sony
PlayStation VR2 headset on blue background.

Sony is reportedly pausing production of the PlayStation VR2 headsets because it has a backlog of unsold headsets.

This report comes from Bloomberg, which claims that PSVR2 sales have slowed every quarter since its February 2023 release, causing stocks of the device to build up. It says Sony has produced 2 million headsets but reportedly hasn't sold through them yet. As a result, it's apparently pausing the production on new units until it works through some of that backlog, according to Bloomberg's anonymous sources.
