Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City unveils a new trailer

Zombies should really consider forming a union of some sort. First, Dead Island gets people talking, and now a new Resident Evil will pit humans against the totally misunderstood undead antagonists. But assuming you can forget your morals and go a’ zombie huntin’, then the recently announced Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City may be the title for you.

You, and three other teammates—either AI-controlled or through co-op play—make up the Umbrella Security Forces, a private military group that shoots stuff at the behest of the company responsible for the zombie outbreak. Fans of the series might wonder how Raccoon City is the setting, what with it being mildly nuked and all, but the game will take place during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. That will mean that Operation Raccoon City is the third title to be set during the same brief time period.

As you explore Raccoon City, you will face off against the biological weapons and zombies, as well as members of the U.S. Special Forces sent in to investigate. You will also run into familiar faces from the series, like Leon Kennedy, who had the unfortunate timing of beginning his first day of work as a Raccoon City cop on the day of the outbreak.

But beyond just being able to see Kennedy, you will be able to make decisions that will drastically alter the Resident Evil series. For example, you can walk up to Kennedy, and shoot him dead. This would make Resident Evil 4–which starred Kennedy—somewhat more slow paced.

In the world of Resident Evil 4, it isn't just the existence of viruses and parasites that turn normal people into crazed zombies that differentiates it from our own reality. In this ream, most homes and buildings don't just simply lock their doors, but secure them using obscure puzzles, such as the one you will find early on when you reach the Village Chief's Manor. This small home has two major roadblocks preventing you from moving on and pursuing your goal of finding the president's daughter. While there is a clue to the first puzzle, it is still somewhat cryptic and easy to miss, while the second is much less clear on what you're even being asked to do. How to solve the cabinet lock puzzle

After entering the manor and dealing with a lone enemy in the bathroom, the first puzzle you need to solve is on the ground floor. Around the back of the house, down the hall with a Red Herb, is a large cabinet. The lock has three symbols you need to correctly align to open, and those symbols include things such as wheat, animals, babies, and birds. You won't be able to guess this one, so instead, you need to go up to the second floor and examine a book on a table in the hallway. This document, called "Illuminados 4:3, spells out the solution. The important part is the middle paragraph with the highlighted text that reads: "The old farmer, his finest crop./ The Slight swineherd, his stoutest pig./ The beggarly grandam, her own beloved babe."

Among the new additions brought to the Resident Evil 4 remake are Merchant Requests. These are small sidequests you can take on to earn some extra rewards to help you survive the dangers lurking in every shadowy corner. One very early request you can take on is called the Egg Hunt request, which is given to you early in Chapter 4. If you are getting Easter egg-hunting vibes from the title, you'd be on the right track since the goal here is to find a very rare Golden Egg to bring to the Merchant. You probably picked up a few white and brown eggs already, but golden ones are not so common. Here's how you can complete the Egg Hunt request in Resident Evil 4.

You can start this quest is in Chapter 4 once you reach the lake. Before hopping into the boat, you can snag this request note on the wall just beside the boat. The request simply tasks you with selling a Golden Egg to the Merchant, but the hard part is actually getting your hands on said egg.

Crafting has been a part of the Resident Evil series since the beginning, when you would mix your herbs together to create different and more powerful healing items. The original Resident Evil 4 didn't add much to that formula, but the Resident Evil 4 remake adds a host of new resources you can combine your items into beyond just your healing items. You will simply just need to figure out some of these recipes in the game, while a few can only be unlocked if you purchase the recipes from the Merchant. Being a survival horror game that leans more toward the action side of things, resources will never be plentiful. Leon will need to use every tool at his disposal, so come prepared with the knowledge of all the crafting recipes and what effects they have when diving into Resident Evil 4.

It should come as no surprise that the only place you can purchase new crafting recipes is from your old friend, the Merchant. There are only five recipes he will sell you, but not all at once. The first time you meet him, he will only sell the Bolts ammo recipe, but subsequent recipes will unlock as you encounter him in later chapters.
