Sims 3 Pirated Before Launch

Sims 3 Pirated Before Launch

Promising to be one of the most popular video games of the year, The Sims 3 launches officially on June 5. But it’s already hit the record books as the most-pirated game of the year, popping up on torrent networks and reportedly downloaded 180,000 times between May 14-21.

Spore was the most-pirated game of last year, illegally downloaded around 400,000 times over three weeks. The Sims 3 figure would put it ahead of that curve, and means the makers are set to lose around $9 million in sales, states The Register.

According to Bloomberg, Electronic Arts, which makes the game, claims the version being pirated is incomplete, and "buggy, pre-final build."

EA elected not to build digital rights management into the game.

One of the weirdest games of the year will launch this May
Key art for Indika

Publisher 11 bit Studios revealed that Indika -- a very weird game from Odd Meter Studio that left a strong impression on me during February's Steam Next Fest -- will finally come out on May 8.

This announcement came during GamesRadar's Future Games Show at PAX East 2024 on Thursday afternoon via a trailer that runs the gamut from being hilarious to frighteningly eerie within just a couple of minutes. Indika has had some of the weirdest video game trailers I've ever seen since its reveal in October 2023. Seriously, check out 11 bit Studios' playlist of trailers for this game if you're unfamiliar with the game, and you'll be instantly be intrigued.

After 14 years in the making, Harold Halibut finally launches next month
Harold Halibut stands tall.

Harold Halibut, a game that’s been in the works for 14 years, is finally coming out. The handcrafted narrative adventure is set to launch on April 16 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Ahead of its release date announcement, Digital Trends got a closer look at the project, going hands-on with the first five hours of the ambitious project and getting insight into its unusual development from its creators.

The debut title from Slow Bros. tells a sci-fi story about a small community living entirely within a spaceship, the Fedora, that’s trapped in an alien planet’s ocean. Players take on the role of Harold, an assistant to a scientist aboard the ship who's looking for a way to free it and continue its intended journey. Though that premise may sound dark, it’s warm in its tone, focusing on the relationships between its cast of eccentric characters.

Star Wars Outlaws will support DLSS 3 when it launches this year
One character points a gun at others while gambling in a bar in the trailer for Star Wars Outlaws.

Nvidia revealed in a blog post that Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws will be on GeForce Now and use some of its proprietary technology when it launches sometime this year.

Specifically, Star Wars Outlaws will support DLSS 3 and RTX Direct Illumination to improve the game's visuals with ray traced global illumination lighting and effects. The announcement of these visual enhancements for PC and GeForce Now players is the first official update we've gotten on Star Wars Outlaws in a while. Ubisoft unveiled the game at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023, and it left a strong impression. The game will follow Kay Vess, a new character and smuggler trying to survive in a galaxy still dominated by the Empire during the time period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi's events.
