Super Smash Bros E3 demo comes to Best Buy in June

As part of its previously announced E3 extravaganza, Nintendo has partnered with Best Buy to bring the new Super Smash Bros. to 100 stores around the country for two days in June, giving eager fans a first crack at the upcoming Wii U game. It’s the the same demo that press and other industry types will find on the show floor at E3 next month, and it’ll be available on June 11 from 4-9 PM and June 14 from 12-5 PM at participating Best Buy stores across the country.

If just getting to play the new game isn’t quite enough to pique your interest, the first 70 fans to pre-order the game at each event will receive a rare collectible Super Smash Bros. gold coin, as well as a $5 My Best Buy Rewards Zone certificate on picking up the released game.

In anticipation of a big Nintendo love-fest, fans are encouraged to bring their 3DS and 2DS handhelds to play games like Kirby: Triple Deluxe or Mario Golf: World Tour.

StarCraft is leaving its RTS roots for an open-world shooter, and I’m cautiously optimistic

StarCraft without the RTS? I think Blizzard is making the right call

Blizzard finally brought the franchise back at BlizzCon 2026, only to reveal that the next game isn't the RTS sequel people have waited more than a decade for. Considering the history of the franchise, I can understand why some StarCraft fans are upset.

Simply titled StarCraft, the 2030 release is instead a story-driven, open-world shooter set in the Koprulu Sector around 70 years after StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. We haven't even seen gameplay yet, and yet it's a big departure for a franchise whose identity is practically synonymous with real-time strategy. I also think it may be exactly what StarCraft needs. But I say this with a lot of caution, and even more hope.

When 1001 Threads of Mizan was announced at Gamescom, it immediately caught my attention. Not just because it looked good, but because it arrived at an interesting time for anyone craving an adventure rooted in Arabic folklore and aesthetics. With Ubisoft's Prince of Persia remake cancelled, MBC Game Studio's debut feels like it has wandered into a gap that has been sitting there for far too long.

And unlike the usual Gamescom routine of watching a trailer, grabbing some swag and moving along, MBC Game Studio actually put a controller in my hands. The team walked us through the story and lore before letting us play the pre-alpha demo ourselves. That made the reveal considerably more interesting because I wasn't just watching Mizan -- I was actually playing it.

Netflix is developing an animated ‘Diablo’ series, landing another video game win

Netflix is continuing its push into the world of gaming with yet another adaptation of a hit franchise. At BlizzCon 2026, it was announced that the streamer is developing an animated series set in the expansive Diablo universe. Here is the official premise of the upcoming show, as per Variety:

“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens. A new animated series set in the world of ‘Diablo’ is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”
