Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury trailer reveals wild new game mode

Nintendo released a new trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which finally reveals information on the re-release’s new mode. Bowser’s Fury is an entirely new adventure that features a gigantic Bowser.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is a Nintendo Switch version of the 2013 Wii U game Super Mario 3D World. Nintendo previously revealed that the new edition would feature something called Bowser’s Fury, but this is the first time the mode has been shown in any form.

The two-minute trailer shows Mario navigating an entirely new world, complete with familiar enemies and platforming mechanics from Super Mario 3D World. The mode appears to use more open environments similar to levels in Super Mario Odyssey with cat coins and stars are scattered throughout the stages.

Bowser Jr. appears as a companion in the mode. In the trailer, he follows Mario around in his signature clown car and uses his brush to reveal hidden powerups. It’s not clear if Bowser Jr. is a playable character or computer-controlled.

In the back half of the trailer, a gigantic, inky Bowser emerges from the ocean and starts lobbing fireballs at Mario. The climactic scene ends with Mario getting a powerup that turns him into an enormous version of Cat Mario.

Judging by the trailer, the mode looks like a challenging addition to the original game. Nintendo has yet to share exact details about the mode, which still leaves some questions about how long the adventure is or if it features multiplayer.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury launches on Nintendo Switch on February 12.

AMD’s new CPU could silently replace the Ryzen 7 7800X3D
The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D CPU.

AMD just expanded its lineup of gaming CPUs, but it's not a Zen 5 chip. Instead, AMD launched a new Zen 4 CPU, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D. Once again a Micro Center exclusive, the CPU could be an interesting budget offering ... if not for the fact that it still costs a pretty penny. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D seems to be disappearing from the market. What's going on?

The fact that AMD revisited the Zen 4 lineup is not surprising, as it still continues to release Zen 3 chips. It's also not shocking that the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is a Micro Center exclusive, as the Ryzen 5 5600X3D was also only available at that one retailer. In the case of the 7600X3D, though, it'll also be available in Germany through Mindfactory.

Nintendo World Championships turned me into a Super Mario Bros. god
Box art for super mario bros shows fire Mario running.

The newly released Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is all about mastery. The retro microgame collection takes 13 NES classics and breaks them down into bite-sized speedrunning challenges that beg players to replay them over and over to lower their best time. That process all leads to the package's big event, the titular Nintendo World Championships. Every week, players all submit their best times for five specific challenges and fight for a top ranking come Monday morning.

I had no idea how I'd fare against hundreds of thousands of people in the game's first week. While I'd been sharpening my skills during the review period for the game, I still didn't have much confidence that I could make a splash in games like Super Mario Bros. that have been mapped out to perfection already.
