Words With Friends is chasing Wordle’s success with new daily puzzle games

Words With Friends is expanding. What was once just a popular way to play unofficial multiplayer Scrabble on mobile has now become a larger hub for other daily word games.

Mobile development juggernaut Zynga announced that it's added four games to the app. Mini Crosswords gives you a new crossword to complete every day and a leaderboard for competing against other players. Word Wheel is an anagram game where players connect letters in a wheel to form words. Word Search provides a new puzzle theme each day. Finally, Guess Word is like Wordle, with players having to guess a word in six tries.

Annapurna makes its first new game announcement since staff exodus

We got a look at Wheel World, a game from Nidhogg developer Messhof and publisher Annapurna Interactive, during Thursday's Xbox Partner Preview. This marks the first major game-related announcement Annapurna Interactive has made since a massive staff exodus in early September.

Annapurna Interactive made a name for itself as a publisher behind premier indie games such as What Remains of Edith Finch and Stray. Reports say that its leadership disagreed with how Annapurna Pictures owner Megan Ellison was running the company, and after a planned spinoff failed and a deal was made with Remedy Entertainment without Annapurna Interactive leadership's knowledge, 25 staff members resigned. While Annapurna voiced its intention to continue publishing games and honoring preexisting contracts after this happened, Annapurna Interactive is not the same as it was just a couple of months ago.

Studio behind It Takes Two studio has a new game in the works

The team behind game of the year winner It Takes Two has announced that a new game is in the works in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

According to Electronic Arts, which will be publishing the game under its EA Originals label, it's a brand new IP taking the form of a "totally epic co-op adventure." This puts it in line with Hazelight's previous games: It Takes Two and A Way Out, which were only playable in two-person co-op.
