What’s happened? Sony has added to its eye-catching selection of PS5 controller colors with the introduction of the new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller – although its availability is going to be limited.
- The Icon Blue Special Edition controller will go on sale in the US and Canada from October 20.
- It will then be available in Mexico and Chile from October 28.
- Sony has not said whether it’ll bring this colorway to other markets in the future.
- The new DualSense controller will be priced at $84.99 when it goes on sale.
Why blue? Sony has shared details on its inspiration behind this special edition controller, with the PlayStation itself playing a major roll in the design.
- “Inspired by PlayStation’s iconic shades of blue, this design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller” Leo Cardoso, from Sony’s Color, Material and Finish design team, explains.
- “As a nod to our origins, we added Katakana characters on the back that spell our name the Japanese way: Pureisutēshon.”
Exclusive US merch: For those of you in the United States, Sony is also treating you to some new products alongside the Icon Blue controller. Pricing for these new products has not been confirmed.
- Astro Bot Lunch Box: as the name suggestions, this is a lunch box featuring the face of Astro Bot. The face is lenticular, allowing it to shift expression as you move it.
- PlayStation Jersey: an almost baseball-esque gamer-inspired jersey with a large PlayStation logo on the back and a smaller logo on the front.
- The Last of Us Ellie Mini Backpack: The Last of Us fans will love this cute mini backpack.
- Twisted Metal Meltz Figures: an assortment of Culturefly’s Meltz figures reimagined as over-the-top characters and vehicles from Twisted Metal.
- Monogram Backpack Clips: a set of figural backpack clips celebrating fan-favorite PlayStation characters, including Astrobot, Kratos from God of War, and Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank.
