The third DLC for ‘Spider-Man’ swings onto PlayStation 4 next week

Marvel’s Spider-Man - Silver Lining: DLC 3 Teaser | PS4

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a wonderful superhero game — it’s so great, in fact, that it was included on Digital Trends’ best games of the year list. If you’ve already played the main story and two DLC packs, however, don’t take it out of your PlayStation 4 just yet, as the third pack launches on December 21.

The final part of the episodic Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps series, called Silver Lining, focuses on private security leader Silver Sable as she returns to New York to reclaim stolen technology. She’s had an uneasy relationship with Peter Parker in the game, and things look to get even rockier as he tries to protect the city from her wrath.

“Stay out of my way or suffer the consequences,” Sable tells Peter in the teaser trailer.

Hammerhead is responsible for the theft of Sable’s weapons, and she appears ready to kill him as a result of his apparent incompetence. We’re sure there’s more to this story than meets the eye, as is the case with most other parts of the game.

In addition to new missions, bases, enemy types, trophies, and challenges, Silver Lining also includes three additional suits for Spider-Man. One of these is Peter’s suit from the recent animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; an Aaron Aikman armor suit and a Cyborg Spider-Man suit are also included.

You can actually get the next expansion for free if you pre-order the Into the Spider-Verse movie on the PlayStation Store. Your purchase will also get you a dynamic theme and additional avatars for your account, or you could purchase The City That Never Sleeps bundle for $25. On its own, the episode will cost $10.

Thus far, the extra DLC for Spider-Man has been exciting, though the episodes are fairly brief. The main campaign isn’t terribly long, either, but there are plenty of side activities to complete and collectibles to find scattered across Manhattan. You can also just spend hours of time swinging around the city, as the traversal mechanics Insomniac Games developed are stellar.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now exclusively for PlayStation 4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters December 14.

The best Suit Tech upgrades in Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man soars through the air in a biomechanical suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't hold anything back when it comes to expanding on everything done in the first game. You have two Spider-Men to control, more districts to explore, tons of side quests and activities to do to gather upgrade materials, more skill trees, and gadgets, and on top of all that there are Suit Tech upgrades. By the time you unlock them, you may feel overwhelmed with the number of things to invest in, but these may be the most important upgrades to keep track of. Like the shared skill tree, these upgrades apply to both characters at once and can make the difficulty curve of the game far smoother by buffing up some very important stats on your characters. If you're feeling a bit burned out on all the options Spider-Man 2 already throws at you, we'll break down the best Suit Tech upgrades you should unlock ASAP.
Best Suit Tech upgrades

Suit Tech upgrades apply all unlocked buffs to both characters and are divided into unique categories. Each one has a tree that takes more resources to unlock the higher-tier upgrades, but it also has two branches. You always unlock both options in a branch when you reach them, but can only equip one at a time.
Health
Speccing into health is your first and top priority. The main buffs here are the Amazing, Spectacular, and Ultimate health upgrades that each increase your base HP by 10 points. You may not feel health is all that necessary to buff in the early game, but once you start facing bosses and the late-game grunts who are far more aggressive, you'll be begging for more health at all times.

How to get Rare Tech Parts in Spider-Man 2
Peter and Miles perched next to each other in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

The amount of upgrade materials in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 can make your head spin at times. From all the different tokens, parts, and plain skill points, it can be hard to keep them all straight, let alone where you find each one. The game does a decent job of letting you know what rewards any activity on the map will give you by highlighting it, but when you're hunting for Rare Tech Parts it can be a pain to slowly scroll around looking for a way to snag some. Plus, if you want to be efficient in getting them, it will take even longer. Here is how you can get Rare Tech Parts in Spider-Man 2 so you can get your upgrades done and save the day.
Best ways to get Rare Tech Parts
Technically Rare Tech Parts aren't any harder to get than other collectables like City Tokens, but are "rare" because you get them in much smaller quantities than normal Tech Parts. If you're hunting for them, your first stop should be any of the Prowler Stashes. These unlock very early in the story after Miles talks to his uncle and is sent to one to demonstrate how they work. Once you know how to solve the little environmental puzzles, they won't take you too long to get through, and they continue to appear as you move through the story. You get three for each you open.

Hunter Blinds are your next best source for Rare Tech Parts, giving five for any you complete, and are basically the opposite of Prowler Stashes. Instead of a little environmental puzzle to solve, these are combat (or stealth) focused encounters, so you can swap between them to add some variety to your Rare Tech Parts grind!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sets an incredibly high bar for future PS5 games
EMBARGOED FOR 9/15 8 AM PT Miles leaps through the air in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

When Sony set out to highlight the power of the PS5 and its SSD, it did so with a modified version of Marvel's Spider-Man. We were treated to a flythrough of the city from end to end at speeds greater than even our web-slinging hero could hope to match without a hiccup or drop in graphical quality. That makes it fitting that the first game that feels like it fully lives up to the promises the PS5 was sold on is none other than Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

This generation has had a notably more drawn-out separation from the previous. Nearly all of Sony's first-party releases, including God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, have seen dual releases on PS4 and PS5. Having played the technically astounding Spider-Man 2, it now seems clear that developers had been holding back to get their games to run on older hardware. Even Insomniac's own Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, a PS5 exclusive, now feels like an opening act that was warming us up for the headliner. Spider-Man 2 finally feels like the first game that could not exist on any console other than the PS5.
